Friday 19th September
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we have been learning the story of ‘Dear Greenpeace’ with actions. Ask your child to tell it to
you, it is a lovely story about a girl who writes letters to Greenpeace about helping a whale in her pond. We
have been drawing our own story maps, hot seating different characters and making a story sandwich. Next
week we will be finding out all about who Greenpeace are!
In maths this week we have been counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and have started to count in 3s! Next week we will
be doing lots of estimating.
In SOLE this week we have been introduced to open ended problem solving questions and have used our
creative skills to work together to solve the problems.
In Year 2 your child will come home with 2 or 3 different books in their book bag. The colour banded book
is the book that your child can change before and after school independently. If you would like to change
this book with them to ensure they are choosing a variety of genres, please do so after 3.10pm. Books used
in guided reading sessions will stay in school so we can discuss the book in detail to extend the children’s
knowledge of punctuation, comprehension and fluency. These books are changed by the class teacher in the
guided reading sessions. The children who go to Miss Cheeseworth for phonics will also come home with a
phonic reader, this is linked to the sound that they are learning in their phonics session. This book will be
changed daily with their phonics teacher. I also let the children choose a picture book from the reading
corner in the classroom to promote the love of reading and to share with parents, carers and siblings.
Thank you for your understanding, I know it is confusing. It is really important that you write in the blue
reading record so that I can see the children are reading every day.
Thank you for remembering book bags, water bottles and PE kits. The children look so smart and ready to
learn!
Don’t forget we are going to be meeting at Living Coasts on Tuesday at 9.30am and returning to school for
the normal pick up time of 3.10pm.
Thank you very much for your support, Miss Dowle
