Recent surveys from EUROSPIRE III and EUROASPIRE IV show that many persons with pre-existing coronary artery disease are not on the recommended therapies and there are significant differences in treatment patterns between regions, even within a limited geographic region such as the Southeastern European region. Data often show that while treatment of individual risk factors may be adequate, combined treatment and goal attainment of multiple risk factors, such as LDL-C, blood pressure and A1c levels together in those with diabetes is often poor, requiring implementation of systematic efforts to address all required risk factors both in primary and in secondary prevention. Program of this School will cover the following topics: Epidemiology and prevention of cardiovascular diseases Non-invasive cardiology and imaging Atrial fibrillation and heart failure Treatment of acute coronary syndrome and interventional cardiology Pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases Learning Objectives: 1) Understand the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease 2) Understand the latest clinical trial evidence and the latest therapies for lipid management 3) Discuss the latest clinical trials and guidelines for management of hypertension 4) Discuss the potential role of HDL-cholesterol and emerging therapies 5) Understand the connection between metabolic syndrome, diabetes and CVD and the guidelines for cardiovascular risk reduction in such patients. 6) Understand the evidence-based guidelines for the prevention of CVD in youth and adolescents 7) Understand the role of comprehensive lifestyle management in the prevention of CVD 8) Understand the guidelines for secondary prevention and management of coronary artery disease 9) Understand the latest modalities and evidence-based guidelines for the screening and risk assessment of asymptomatic adults 10) Understand the latest modalities and evidence-based guidelines for treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) 2 11) Discuss the new options and dosing strategies for oral anticoagulation in AF 12) Discuss the new options for improving DAPT and stent implantation 13) Understand the latest modalities and evidence-based guidelines for the treatment of heart failure 14) Understand the latest modalities and evidence-based guidelines for treatment of acute coronary syndromes The lecturers are: Prof. Dr. Nathan D.
