"Momentum In Science" is a two-part state-of-the-science film that takes viewers inside

Away from Her – 2006. PG-13. Julie Christie. Man’s wife has Alzheimer’s dementia and
is placed in long-term care facility; slowly loses memory of him.
Cortex – 2008. A retired detective with Alzhiemer’s solves mysteries at a clinic.
Diagnosis - 2004. Short 4 minute film. A young woman wakes up in a bar and tells the

Do You Remember Love? – 1985. Joanne Woodward. Television movie about a
professor who develops Alzheimer’s and how it affects her life and family.
Encantada – 2008. Short 13 minute story about young boy whose grandmother
develops Alzheimer’s disease.
Folks! – 1992. PG.Tom Selleck, Don Ameche. Comedy about a man and his father who
has dementia.
Forget me Never – 1999. Mia Farrow. A made for television drama about woman who
develops Alzheimer’s and the effect on her career and family.
Forgetful Not Forgotten – 2009. Documentary about a man and his father's battle with
Alzheimer's and the impact it had on his family. The documentary's focus on the nonmedical impacts of the disease on the family and on the mother, the primary caregiver.
Gone – 2007. Short 12 minute story of man whose mother develops Alzheimer’s.
Iris – 2001. R. Judi Dench. Fictionalized true story of the lifelong romance between
novelist Iris Murdoch and her husband John Bayley, from their student days through her

about an elderly professor with mild dementia who visits his summer house with his wife
and comes to terms with his daughter.
The Remembering Movies – 2004. A grandson creates movies to recreate his
grandmother's memory in an effort to cure her Alzheimer's Disease.
Safe House – 1998. Patrick Stewart. An ex-spy faces his own mortality, in the shape of
the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

Fighting Choice – 1986. Disney. PG. Beau Bridges, Patrick Dempsey. Teenager with
epilepsy that becomes refractory to medications and seeks neurosurgery against
parents wishes. Takes legal action against parents.

epilepsy seeks ketogenic diet after traditional therapies fail.
A Matter of Life and Death [aka Stairway to Heaven] - 1946. PG. David Nivens. Soldier

Requiem – 2006. Based on a true story, this film is about the exorcism of Anneliese

sclerosis.
Duet for One – 1986. Julie Andrews. Story of classical cellist, Jacqueline Mary du Pré
who is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Eden – 1996. R. Joanna Going. Story of a woman with multiple sclerosis, a student who
is infatuated with her, and her professor husband.

sclerosis and enters a nursing home.

Hilary and Jackie – 1998. R. Emily Watson, Rachel Griffins. Ficitionalized real-life story
of two classical musician sisters, Hilary du Pré and Jacqueline Mary du Pré [who is

A Prayer Before Birth – 1991. Short film about the director, a young black lesbian, and
her struggles to come to terms with her multiple sclerosis.

Awakenings – 1990. PG-13. Robin Williams, Robert DiNiro. Fictionalized true story of
Dr. Oliver Sacks, his patients with postencephalitic parkinsonsim, and the effects of
levodopa. The disorder and drug effects are central to this movie. Very good
fictionalized depiction of parkinsonism symptoms and clinical effects of levodopa
[efficacy and side effects of motor complications and psychosis]. Based on the novel of
same name by Dr. Oliver Sacks.
Brain Transplant – 1992. PBS./Nova. Sequel to "The Case of the Frozen Addicts", in
which fetal tissue transplants are given to reverse Parkinson's disease.
The Case of the Frozen Addict – 1986. PBS/Nova Documentary. Young individuals
mysteriously develop parkinsonism [due to injection of a bad batch of designer narcotic
drug]. Story of how Dr. Bill Langston and others solve the medical mystery and findings
result in medical breakthrough for PD research. Retold in Dr. Langston’s book of same
name [1995].
Love and Other Drugs – 2010. R. Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway. Story about a
pharmaceutical rep who falls in love with woman with young-onset PD.
Saving Millie – 2005. CBS. A made for TV movie drama based on the best-selling book
and real-life journey of political journalist Mort Kondracke. The movie recounts his
inspiring love story with his activist wife, Milly, and the dramatic change in their lives in
the years after she is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
Shaken: Journey into the mind of a Parkinson’s patient. 2008. Documentary drama of

anterograde amnesia and his response to music therapy. Based on the short story, The

The girl has clinical depression and attempts suicide. The couple runaway together and

My Name is Sabina Spielrein – 2002. This movie relates, the story of a young woman,
Sabina Spielrein, a patient of Carl Gustav Jung and her attachement to him. Countertransference.

One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – 1975. R. Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher and
Danny DeVito. Story of a convict who feigns mental disturbance, is admitted to a
psychiatric facility for evaluation, his fellow inpatients, the staff, and his rebellious
activities within the facility.
Play Misty for Me – 1971. R. Clint Eastwood. A radio DJ is stalked by an infatuated and
obsessed woman.
Shutter Island – 2010. R. Leonardo DiCaprio. Psychologial thriller about a U.S. marshal
who investigates mysteries at a psychiatric facility or so he thinks.
Single White Female – 1992. R. Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Jason Leigh. Story of two
woman; one is mentally disturbed and develops an obsession for the other woman.
Titicut Follies – 1967. Black and white documentary film about the treatment of inmates
/ patients at Bridgewater State Hospital for the criminally insane, a Massachusetts
Correctional Institution in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
