AMERICAN ACADEMY OF EQUINE ART, INC.
WORKSHOPS
AAEA workshops are open to anyone interested
in equine art, whether a beginner or more experienced
artist who wishes to sharpen his or her skills. Traditional workshops in drawing, painting and sculpting
the horse are taught by Academy Full Members and professional artists selected for their training and
experience. Held in the AAEA’s new location in Georgetown, Kentucky or in satellite locations around
the country, each location offers a perfect setting for studying and creating the equine image. The
workshops provide a unique opportunity for students to exchange ideas with others who share similar
creative goals and an appreciation of horses. Please note that more workshops are added throughout the
year and are listed on our website only. These workshops are created due to requests and needs.

ELAINE HURST
Painting Workshop: “Painting Beyond the Photo”
Class Time: 9:00 – 4:00
Cost: $500
Skill Levels: All Levels
Location: The Art Center in Orange, Orange, Virginia
This workshop is designed for those painters working from photographs, who want to
capture the spontaneity and expressiveness that comes with working from life. We
will use photographs as reference, while at the same time trying exercises and
techniques that will let us incorporate more expressiveness into our paintings. This workshop is for anyone, regardless of level,
who wants to combine representational and expressive painting, to create your own unique style.
“I gravitate to scenes and subjects for my paintings that provide a different point of view. I see the possibility of paintings around
me, in the shapes of objects, with the way the light illuminates both the ordinary and out of the ordinary. I paint in both oils and
pastels, using the medium that best speaks to the particular subject. My paintings have become increasingly more a mix of
expressionism and representational work. Whether I am painting “en plein air,” working on studio paintings, commissions, or
something that just catches my attention, I become lost in time while in the process of creativity.” – Elaine Hurst
