Margaret Morrissey received the telescope on behalf of the library. The gift was made possible through the Library Telescope Program of the Aldrich Astronomical Society, Inc. John Root, Library Telescope Program Coordinator for Aldrich Astronomical Society and Margaret Morrissey, Jacob Edward Library Director The program enables interested libraries throughout Massachusetts to acquire a loaner telescope for their library patrons. Dino is an active member of the group and is part of a volunteer team who modify the various moving parts of the telescope to provide durability for use by the public and supportive material of celestial objects to observe. Margaret Morrissey, Library Director of Jacob Edwards Library, was approached about the possibility of receiving a telescope as a way to stimulate an interest in astronomy and foster scientific literacy. Margaret enthusiastically responded to the idea. The Aldrich Astronomical Society placed our order in the queue and our telescope was scheduled for modification. This is a hands-on process performed locally at Anna Maria College. The effort is coordinated by John Root who, with Jim Zebrowski, president of the Aldrich Astronomical Society, was able to join us and be part of the presentation. In six years over 100 telescopes have been placed with local libraries. Margaret expressed her thanks for the gift of the telescope and noted the gift coincides with celebration of the 100th anniversary of Jacob Edwards Library. THE “MOD” SQUAD? Members of the Aldrich Astronomical Society gladly display the new “modified” telescopes destined for area libraries. Bits and Pieces: Thanks to all Rotarians who donated to the Blessed John Paul II Food Pantry.
