FURTHER PARTICULARS RELATING TO THE POST OF ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/ SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER IN THE FACULTY OF PHARMACY THE FACULTY: The Faculty of Pharmacy at Rhodes University is a research led department that produces high quality graduates at all levels. The Faculty of Pharmacy has a national and international profile and teaches across the four disciplines of Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutics at the undergraduate level. The Faculty has eighteen academic posts and offers a four year Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, MSc, MPharm and PhD degrees, by thesis, as well as an MPharm and PharmD by course-work and thesis. The Faculty of Pharmacy is dedicated to achieving excellence in an environment of interdisciplinary co-operation and mutual respect, consistent with the mission of the University and with the mission of the profession of Pharmacy. THE POST INCLUDING ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will be expected to take on a leadership role in respect of clinical teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and provide leadership in the development of clinical courses for the undergraduate BPharm curriculum and at the Masters and Doctoral levels. The incumbent whilst housed in the Division of Pharmacology will be required to liaise extensively with staff in other Divisions due to the integrated nature of clinical teaching that is envisaged. Furthermore there will be a need to interact with staff in public sector hospitals and clinics and other practice settings to develop additional sites for experiential and work integrated learning. The BPharm course aims to equip students with knowledge and skills required to identify and treat the majority of health-related problems encountered in various sectors of the profession of Pharmacy. The successful applicant will be expected to assist in developing an integrated Pharmacotherapy curriculum with a problem-based learning approach at the fourth year level and assist in further developing the Clinical Masters and PharmD programmes and associated curricula. The academic component of the undergraduate course focuses on basic pharmacology and clinical pharmacology (therapeutics). Hospital rounds, case study presentations and discussions of disease states and their management take place mostly in the final year of the undergraduate degree A qualification registerable with the SAPC or HPCSA is essential as the incumbent will be expected to supervise students in the practice setting. A doctoral in Clinical Pharmacy or a closely related field is required for appointment at the level of Associate Professor/ Senior Lecturer. Ideally, prospective candidates would have made significant contribution to the field of Clinical Pharmacy internationally or locally, and have participated in the intellectual advancement of the discipline. Proven ability as a teacher, with knowledge and experience of innovative evidence-based teaching methodologies; a credible publication record; and an ability to initiate and supervise clinical research is required. The successful candidate will be 1 expected to provide intellectual leadership in the Faculty of Pharmacy.
