Case requirements for a residency or individual training programme in Animal Reproduction,
subfield Ruminant Reproduction and Herd Health
Procedure
Breeding soundness examination in the cow, ewe or doe
Determination of stage of the cycle and optimal time for breeding
Artificial insemination of female ruminants
Embryo transfer (collection, laboratory analysis and transfer of embryos)
Pregnancy diagnosis in female ruminants
Diagnosis and treatment of anoestrus
Management of disturbed pregnancies (e.g. abortion)
Diagnosis and management of dystocia, hydrallantois etc, including
fetotomy and caesarean section in ruminants
Diagnosis and treatment of disorders in the puerperal period (e.g. retained
placenta, puerperal infections, lacerations)
Resuscitation and intensive care of the newborn calf (e.g. asphyxia,
prematurity, diseases of the urinary tract, septicaemia)
Breeding soundness examination in male ruminants (including semen
collection)
Semen collection and analysis (other than during breeding soundness exam)
Semen cryopreservation
Diagnosis and treatment of mastitis
Reproductive surgery in male ruminants (e.g. castration, teaser
bulls/rams)
Herd health visits
Analysis of cattle herds with fertility problems
Analysis of herds with udder health problems
Management of reproduction in sheep/goat farms
