SECONDARY SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
WEDNESDAY 9TH MARCH 2016, DAPTO OLYMPIC POOL
Carnival will commence at 8.15 a.m. sharp. The first marshalling call will be at 8.10 a.m.
Competitors need to be at the Venue at 8.00 a.m. Officials need to report at 7.50 a.m.
ENTRIES
1. Entries will be by Zone nomination ONLY, that is no entries will be accepted on the day.
2. Competition is on a time trial basis.
3. This year individual and school point scores will be awarded. The purpose of this Carnival is to
select an Association Team for the NSW C.H.S. Championships which will be held at SIAC on
Sunday 3rd – Tuesday 5th April 2016.
COMPETITORS
Competitors who enter these Championships automatically make themselves available for the
Association team selection in the events entered. Any competitor withdrawing from the
Association Team after selection may be liable to 12 months suspension for all further
Association representation. PLEASE MAKE COMPETITORS AWARE OF THIS RULE
ZONE LIMITATION OF ENTRIES
Each Zone is allowed the following entries:a) Three competitors per event, except in the following events where one competitor per event
and two extra competitors may be allowed to compete providing they have equalled or bettered
the Qualifying standard (see standards further in program). Those events are:
- Boys/Girls 12-14, 15-16, 17-19 400m Freestyle
- Boys/Girls Open 800m Freestyle,
- Boys/Girls 12-14, 15-16, 17-19 200 Individual Medley
- Boys/Girls 12-14, 15-16, 17-19 400 Individual Medley,
- Boys/Girls 12-19 200m Medley Relay,
b) Three Relay teams per event, except Boys/Girls 12-19 200m Medley Relay (as stated above)
PLEASE NOTE CHANGE TO CHS RULES A SCHOOL CAN NOMINATE A MAXIMUM OF TWO
(2) RELAY TEAMS PER EVENT
AGES
These are based on the age the student is at 31st December 2016 (that is, age turned this year)
Swimmers must compete in their age group. When an event is not offered in each age group the
competitor must compete in the nearest age above.
RELAYS
a) Relays are SCHOOL TEAM RELAYS ONLY. Swimmers may swim up an age group but can
only swim in one freestyle age relay.
b) See previous rules re limitation of events.
c) See rules as specified in C.H.S. Handbook 6.21. The rules apply at these Championships.
OFFICIALS
Each Zone will be responsible for supplying two officials. Relief for Team Managers to be supplied
by the Zone, the second official will have relief provided by the South Coast School Sports
Association.
All other Officials will be provided and organised by the South Coast & Tablelands Swimming
Association and any parent / spectator volunteers. If there are any club officials associated with
your school that would like to help out on the day please notify Mark Hume.
Note: Casual Relief will not be available for Teachers accompanying school teams.

CONDITIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS
1. The Carnival will be guided by the CHS.Handbook – Section 6.21 and the N.S.W.A.S.A.
2. METHOD OF STARTING:
(a) Competitors must be placed in their lanes and one half pace behind their starting position.
The Referee will give a long whistle to signal competitors to take their positions on the Starting
Platform or for Backstroke and Medley Relays, to immediately enter the water, a second long
whistle shall bring the swimmer immediately to the starting position. The starter will give the
precautionary command “Take your Marks” and competitors will immediately take up their
starting positions at the front of the starting block, and in the case of a Backstroke event, their
starting position in the water and REMAIN STATIONARY. The one start rule will apply in all
events.
3. Protests shall be dealt with by the Disputes Committee comprising:
- Carnival Manager
- Referee
- Relevant Sectional Manager
No protests shall be considered unless lodged by the Team Manager, in writing within 15 minutes
of the conclusion of the event. The Referee will be the sole arbiter on points of law.
4. All events will be time trials.
5. The Association Team will be chosen on times, the fastest three times to go to the CHS
Carnival. The competitors with the three fastest times in each event are to collect their CHS
Carnival information, permission forms, order forms etc before they leave the carnival. Due to
time constraints competitors will have only two weeks to return all information sheets and
cheques (these forms will not be sent out to individuals or Schools).
6. RELAYS
(a) Swimmers may swim in ONE Age Freestyle Relay.
(b) All relay teams shall be school based.
(c) All-Age Relay teams must contain one swimmer from each age group. They can swim in
any order
(d) Relay sheets must be completed by the fastest 3 Teams in each event prior to leaving the
Carnival and these sheets must be handed to the Convener or Sports Co-ordination
Officer.
7. Once competitors are in the hands of officials controlling the event they are not to receive any
coaching or advice. Penalty: Disqualification.
8. In distance events: competitors who, in the opinion of the Carnival Manager or his appointees
are not likely to be placed must withdraw from the water when instructed to do so.
9. Limitation of events: A competitor may enter any number of individual events plus individual
medleys plus one Age Freestyle Relay plus All Age Relay plus Medley Relay.
10. Age Grouping; Swimmers must compete in the next older age group only where there is no
event in their own age group.
11. Program: The Carnival Manager reserves the right to alter the program if this is deemed
necessary.
12. Association Swimming caps are compulsory at the State C.H.S. Carnival and can be
purchased at the Secondary Championships.
13. Electronic timing will be used on all events wherever possible.

**The 400m IM and 800m Freestyle events will not be swum at this meet. To be
considered for this event at the State Championships swimmers may submit times
swum in the last 6 months which can be verified by NSW Swimming. Age
Championship points will NOT be awarded for 400M IM or 800m selection.

RECORDS.
