The program uses funds from each new county project to commission an original work of art. The Pinellas County Communications Department building, which houses Pinellas 18, has a new cedar wood lobby mural and redwood entrance plaque created by Seattle artist Steve Jensen. Both the indoor and outdoor woodcarvings feature a radio tower theme. Previous Public Art & Design projects have brought art to the education center at Weedon Island, the Pinellas Trail and the Pinellas County Courthouse. For electronics, all businesses are eligible and invited to drop off hazardous electronic waste items. For chemicals, businesses that qualify as small waste generators - those that produce less than 25 gallons, or 250 pounds, of chemical waste per month - may bring their chemical hazardous waste to Pinellas County Utilities' quarterly Enviro Business Collection. The next quarterly collection will be Wednesday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Household Electronics & Chemical Collection Center, 2990 110th Ave. N., St. Petersburg. Hazardous business waste can include simple things like fluorescent light bulbs, cleaners, computers or toner cartridges. It can also include items such as process waste, pesticides, laboratory vials, paints and automotive fluids. Businesses should find an alternate means of disposal for explosives and medical waste. Businesses should arrange for drop-off and payment by calling EQ Florida Inc. at (813) 623-5302, ext. 231 (chemicals), or Creative Recycling Systems, Inc. at (813) 621-2319 (electronics). This would make a nice visual as trucks bring hazardous items for disposal.
