Media influences the knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of children and families - and has powerful impact on the delivery of health care. More than ever before, physicians need to be on the vanguard influencing the development of various media. This Fellowship will appeal to those interested in incorporating new knowledge and skills into their practice, those wishing a career that involves media development, those with an interest in media marketing and business, and those wanting to have greater impact in the growing field of health education and outcomes. Practical Skills The primary focus of the Nemours Fellow in Health Media will be to develop the skills and competencies necessary for the implementation of real-world solutions in the field of Health Media. Projects will involve online, video/tv, and/or print media. The major portion of the Fellow’s time will be spent collaborating with the senior project managers, editors, and nationally-known medical faculty of the Nemours Foundation Center for Children’s Health Media in the development of educational projects for the public through various media. Knowledge will be gained about graphics, design, technology, and the business of health media. While a Fellow may launch his/her own project(s) under the direction of the Center, the Fellow will be involved in numerous ongoing Center projects. The Fellowship is located within the facilities of The Nemours Center for Children’s Health Media at the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Wilmington, DE. [See below] Educational Objectives In addition to the substantial knowledge that will gained through working with the physicians and staff of the Center, as described above, the Fellow also is encouraged to pursue a supporting course of study in subject areas related to his/her specific projects. Coursework may involve related fields such as Communications, Traditional and New Media Design and Production, and Medical Writing and Editing. While formal study of medical informatics is not emphasized, opportunities can be made available for learning in this area.
