Fahey Gong (Train from Raga called Pat Pt 1) 2. Willie Moore - Burnett & Rutherford 3:16 source : AAFM JF: "Great, eerie: sounds like it came out of the earth." AAFM notes Note : Fahey fans have long since assumed that Harry Smith's Anthology was the original world tree whence sprang all these many volk roots and hiart leaves, but one school of thought tells us that this was quite untrue, that Fahey and his pals dispensed with Harry by collecting all of those records themselves, and making their own anthologies of American music. And this in spite of Fahey's own notes to the bejeweled cd edition of the Anthology. Willie Moore is the American relation of Loch Lomond, a famously schlocky Scottish folksong. Fahey plays it as part of a live medley in the mid 1970s, then brings it back to form part of his last great tapestry, first called "Banjo St", then retitled "Who Will Rock the Cradle?", and finally coming to rest on "Georgia Stomps" as "Red Rocking Chair". 3. Robert Johnson - I'm Coming Lord Please Don't Drive Me Away 2:20 Album : "Bottleneck Blues" p&c 1995 Testament Records TCD5021 "...Another gospel guitarist who took this 'one-string' approach to the instrument is Robert Johnson of Skene, Mississippi, in the Delta. Born in 1917 and not to be confused with the famous bluesman of the same name, Johnson was initially inspired by the great Delta blues and gospel guitarist Charley Patton and, like Patton, played the instrument with a knife. Johnson started his musical career in the blues and came to be known as Robert Nighthawk after another famous bluesman who just happens to appear on this album. Around 1953 Johnson gave up blues and joined the church, but fortunately he didn't give up guitar. His instrumental version of I Don't Know When Old Death Is Gonna Call 16 Me Home is in the Blind Willie Johnson style, but his I'm Coming Lord, Please Don't Drive Me Away takes a bluesy riff-based approach quite similar to that heard on Jack Owens' Train Time. Deutschmeister Band - It Came Upon A Midnight Clear 2:05 Album : "Christmas Carols : Deutschmeister Band, conducted by Julius Hermann" 19 Westminster Recording Sales Corp., N.Y. WP 6024 C1956 "The Deutschmeister Band was founded in 1741, to serve with the famous Deutschmeister Regiment, the house regiment of the Austrian Emperor. Since capable civilian musicians were drafted for the band, its musical standards have always been much higher than they would have been if the band were limited to selecting its members from musicians who happened to be in the Austrian Army. Over the years it has become a tradition that replacements should be selected from the sons or pupils of retiring members. The Deutschmeister Band became so integral a part of Viennese life that, when the Austrian Army was forced to disband after the end of WWI, just this one military band was kept intact. The only interruption in the history of the band occurred during the Nazi occupation of Austria, when anything which emphasized Austrian national traditions was frowned upon. Julius Hermann has been conductor of the Deutschmeister Band since the middle 1920's. " from liner notes 5.
