Pictures and texts for download: www.juicypool.com/wienproducts Revival of traditions The idea of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry to team well-established Viennese companies with upcoming designers was successfully put into practice for the fourth year in a row. The co-operations give much space for individual ideas and interpretations. Departing from the specific history of the companies, tradition is gently transferred into contemporary products. This year’s collection comprises six pieces; each stands for a fresh interpretation of the “Wiener Werkstätte” tradition in its synergy of craftsmanship and design. The WIEN PRODUCTS Collection was also displayed at the opening of VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, Austria’s biggest design festival (Oct. 1-11, 2009). WIEN PRODUCTS benefit from fresh design ideas Once a year, the collection is realized by WIEN PRODUCTS companies, an umbrella brand established in 1995 by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It exclusively comprises manufacturers committed to high standards of quality, design, innovation, and internationality. Up to now, 55 Viennese companies have been awarded the sought-after membership; six of them took part in the WIEN PRODUCTS Collection 2009. The concept, nationally and internationally acknowledged, reinforces the city’s reputation as the traditional home of an upscale product culture. WIEN PRODUCTS Collection 2009. For centuries, it has seen variations and changes – reasons enough for Viennese graphic and product designer Sebastian Menschhorn to reinterpret the theme for Backhausen, reducing the pomegranates and the infolding twines to its essence. Due to their timeless quality, the textiles can be used for modern furniture as well as for antiques. “Fortuna” and “Prosper” are the first eco-friendly produced and recyclable flame retarding Trevira CS textiles, following the Cradle-to-Cradle principle. € 95,- per linear meter www.backhausen.com, www.sebastianmenschhorn.com Hair jewellery “Freedom of the bird” Lisa Sonnberger and Florentina Reif-Gintl for Skrein* Schmuckwerkstatt “Freedom of the bird” is the name of the elegant and delicate hair accessory, which two young alumnae of the Viennese goldsmith academy, Lisa Sonnberger and Florentina Reif-Gintl, designed for Skrein* Schmuckwerkstatt.
