Job Purpose:
To contribute to the overall delivery of the Northumbria University Corporate Strategy and the Faculty of
Business and Law’s Academic Development plan. In particular to deliver the work of the Business Analysis,
Systems and Supply Chain Management Subject Group and the Faculty Portfolios, in relation to learning and
teaching, research, international, corporate and executive, and academic activities within Newcastle
Business School.
Responsible to:
Direct reporting relationship to an appropriate Principal Lecturer.
Key Responsibilities:
The expectations of the job are for the successful candidate to:









Contribute to teaching and academic delivery and research across the portfolios of the school in the
Subject area as appropriate ;
Undertake a Programme Leadership or similar role appropriate to Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to include
programme/product design and development;
Engage in on-going and future research projects within the School and supervise doctoral students; it
would be particularly helpful if the candidate had a research interest congruent with those of the digital
economy research group e.g. healthcare information management.
Engage in applying for competitive research and consultancy funding and in enterprise activities
delivering knowledge transfer;
Make a full contribution, through personal publications, to future Research Excellence Framework
exercises and ensure contribution to the criteria of accreditation bodies via personal development and
professional academic practice e.g. AACSB, EPAS
The maintenance and enhancement of academic standards and the delivery of a customer focused and
first class client experience;
Work closely with colleagues across the school to positively contribute to the development and delivery
of the Faculty’s strategic objectives;
Participate fully in the life of Newcastle Business School, including delivery and development of
activities with both UK and international academic partners.
Engage in all forms of pedagogic work including classroom teaching, tutorial work and associated
outreach work, residentials, preparation and support of distance learning materials and student
placements, together with associated organisational and administrative work, cover for staff absence
where necessary, preparation, marking and attendance at all exam boards;







Offer student counselling and pastoral care activities in relation to academic matters;
Engage in curriculum development, including the evaluation, review, and where necessary, the
improvement of existing modules and associated learning support materials;
Engage in subject group activities and citizenship within the School;
Engage in staff appraisal, based on assessment of individual and institutional needs;
Engage in the delivery of corporate and executive activities which may include participation in
collaborative research and involvement with external institutions and commercial organisations;
Where appropriate engage in international delivery and staff development;
Engage in other relevant managerial and administrative tasks relating to future learning, teaching,
research or enterprise development.
Location:
The post of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer is based at Northumbria University, City Campus, but travel to other
University campuses and externally, to international partners and corporate clients is required, as well as to
any other premises which the University may from time to time occupy. Overseas travel to academic
partners and corporate clients in relation to delivery of activities, awards, research, consultancy and/or
other externally funded programmes appropriate to the nature of the post will be required.
Attendance Requirements:
The post requires attendance where necessary at the University’s teaching sites and those of Collaborative
Ventures partners based on a working week of 37 hours. A typical workload may include 38 weeks teaching
delivery up to a maximum of 18hours formal scheduled teaching, weekday evening classes and
exceptionally, weekend short course work.
