Proper APA Citations
**Be sure to pay attention to the details**
When creating a reference page or the reference header for
your annotated bibliography:

Articles are cited as in the following example:
Dweck, C. S., & Leggett, E. L. (1988). A social-cognitive approach to
motivation and personality. Psychological Review, 95, 256-273.
Authors. (Year). Title. Journal Name, Journal Volume #, Page #s.
**Note: Do NOT reorder the authors so that they are in alphabetical order!
You should leave them in their original order of authorship.

Whole books are cited as in the following example:
Lewis, H. B. (1971). Shame and guilt in neurosis. New York: International
Universities Press.

Book chapters (when a book is made up of chapters by different authors) are cited
as in the following example:
Morizot, J., Ainsworth, A. T., & Reise, S. P. (2007). Toward modern
psychometrics: Application of item response theory models in personality
research. Handbook of research methods in personality psychology. New
York: Guilford Press.
** For the References for Assignment 1 (The Stigma of Mental Illness) and for
Assignment 3 (PD Project), use the in-text citation style for movies, shows, and
lectures.
When citing an article or book IN-TEXT:
For articles or books with 6 or fewer authors:

Include all authors and the publication year in the first citation.
(Dweck & Leggett, 1988)
(Tangney, Miller, Flicker, & Barlow, 1996)

If there are more than two authors, then for every subsequent citation use the first
author’s name and ‘et al.’
(Tangney, et al., 1996)

If you are using a direct quote, add the page number to either of the above
citations.
(Tangney, et al., 1996, pg. 322)
For articles or books with more than 6 authors:

Include the first 6 authors and ‘et al.’ along with the publication year in the first
citation.
(Skodol, Grilo, McCloskey, Morey, McGlashan, Smith, et al., 2003)

Then for every subsequent citation use the first author’s name and ‘et al.’
(Skodol, et al., 2003)
