JOB DESCRIPTION:

JOB SUMMARY:
1.1
Instructs Saudi students in English to develop their skills to the point where
they are able to:
1.2
Plans and delivers advanced or specialized English language courses to
Hospital employees who need to improve their English level to function
efficiently in the bilingual hospital environment.

(a)
Function as health care professionals and as members of an
international team in a bilingual (English/Arabic) hospital
environment.
(b)
Successfully complete specialist training delivered through the medium
of English.
Plans and delivers Arabic language courses, from elementary to advanced
level, to Hospital employees who need Arabic to function efficiently in the
bilingual hospital environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
2.1
Teaches English and/or Arabic language courses in a formalized classroom
setting to Saudi trainees and hospital employees.
2.2
Assists in the development of an English and/or Arabic language curriculum as
part of a curriculum-planning team.
2.3
Develop teaching strategies and materials which are sensitive to

Prepares in-house course materials and audio-visual aids to supplement and
assist in the delivery of commercially published material.
2.5
Administers regular formative and summative assessments of the trainees’
knowledge of English or Arabic and their mastery of current course work.
2.6
Evaluates and maintains a record of trainees’ progress and attendance.
2.7
Plans remedial work and assignments for trainees failing to achieve the
required progress.
2.8
Counsels trainees with respect to their progress, attitudes and attendance.
2.9
Submits monthly reports to the Senior Language Instructor and relevant course
committees.
2.10
Attends professional development / continuing-education programmes as
recommended by the Senior Language Instructor or the Academic Review
Committee.
2.11
Participates in the planning, preparation and delivery of professional
development / continuing-education programmes as directed by the Senior
Language Instructor.
2.12
As directed by the Senior Language Instructor, performs other duties and tasks
within his realm of knowledge and experience.
HOURS OF WORK:
3.1
Bilingual Language Instructors work a total of 48 hours per week with a
maximum of 25 hours of class contact. Class contact hours can be reduced, on
the advice of the Senior Language Instructor and at the discretion of the
Training Manager, in cases where an instructor is heavily involved in OJT
supervision, administrative work, or the preparation of new course materials.

REQUIREMENTS:
4.1.
Qualifications:
4.1.1
Bachelor’s degree with English as major subject, from an approved
university or college is essential.
4.1.2. A recognized postgraduate professional teaching qualification, or
equivalent, is essential.
4.1.3. A qualification in Arabic at university or college level will be an
additional recommendation.
4.2.
Personal Qualities:
4.2.1. With rare exceptions, only native-speakers of Arabic will be appointed.
4.2.2. Ability to work in a foreign country as a member of a team.
4.2.3. A willingness and ability to adapt teaching materials and teaching
styles to local conditions.
4.3.
Essential Experience:
4.3.1. At least three years’ experience of teaching English as a foreign
language.
4.3.2. Familiarity with computers and word-processing.
4.4
Desirable Experience:
4.4.1
Previous overseas teaching experience.
4.4.2
Previous experience in teaching English to health professionals.
4.4.3
Experience in Saudi Arabia or another Middle Eastern country.
