PROJECT: DECADE’S of FASHION Purpose: Recognize the relationship between historical events and fashion events for the following decades: 1940-49; 1950-59; 1960-69; 1970-79; 1980-89; 1990-99, 2000-10, 2010+ You will work in small groups (2-3 people). Each group will be assigned one decade in fashion history to research and teach the class information about your decade. Gather as much information as you can about fashion in the period. Your reporting should be THOROUGH, ACCURATE, & CREATIVE! Your goal is to help your fellow Fashion Merchandising students understand the relationship between historical events and fashion events of your decade. Requirements 1. Choose and play 1 minute of a song from your decade. 2. Choose and play a 3-5 minute segment of an old movie, film, or t.v. sitcom based on the time period (videotape, mpg file, or DVD. The segment must show fashion of that time. Give the name of the movie/show and identify the fashion(s) shown and IDENTIFY fashions represented (present verbally). 3. Use the powerpoint for your decade that is posted on my website and enhance/improve it by adding ALL of the following: ** ALSO USE THE 2.03 OUTLINE AS A RESOURCE!! ** (posted on my website) a. Use the powerpoint for your decade that is posted on my website to b. 10 (minimum) illustrations and descriptions (pictures or sketches) of women’s clothing. c. 5 (minimum) illustrations and descriptions of men’s clothing from the decade. d. At least 1 of each of the following: accessories, hair styles, shoes, swimwear, and evening wear. e. For a, b, & c above, be sure to include: color, fabrics, products, patterns, etc. f. Explain and use pictures about the mood or theme of the decade – historical events, societal changes, political & economic influences, etc. The information should be THOROUGH—dates, clear descriptions, and results of the events. g. Explain and use pictures of inventions of your decade. If possible, bring this item to class. h. Important designers that influenced the decade – Be specific! Include names & specific influences. 4. Oral presentation: Project must be presented with each member of the group participating equally. 5. Handout(s): Create & distribute handout(s) with COMPLETE information about your decade (fill in the blank, outline, etc.) for students to have & use to study for testing. 6. OPTIONAL (BP’s): a. Bring in family photos of the decade. Display these in a way that they may be returned to the owners. b. Bring in an item of clothing that is CURRENTLY in fashion that was influenced by your decade. c. Model clothes from the decade during your presentation. d. Bring in one item (not fashion) that we still use today from your decade. Examples: games, dolls, inventions, etc. e. Design and model a T-shirt that depicts your decade. f. Sing a song from your decade, demonstrate a dance, write a poem, or present some form of art or any other creative item that describes the decade. g. Interview grandparents, parents, teachers, etc. about your decade. Share their comments with the class and submit the typed notes from the interview with your project. Ask a minimum of 5 questions. 7. Oral presentation. Your classmates will take notes from your presentation. Be creative. The presentation should be no less than 10 and no more than 20 minutes. 8. BIBLIOGRAPHY: You must submit a bibliography showing at least 5 sources consulted.
