All of our services are free of charge and can be scheduled by calling 800.227.2345: Reach to Recovery: Trained volunteers offer information and support to patients before, during, and after breast cancer treatment. Pitt County has nine Reach volunteers available to assist breast cancer patients going through their cancer journey. Look Good...Feel Better®: The Look Good...Feel Better program is a free community-based national service that teaches female cancer patients beauty techniques to help restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Pitt County has four trained cosmetologists available to assist women cancer patients going through active treatment. Man to Man®: Man to Man helps men cope with prostate cancer by providing community-based education and support to patients and their family members. Participants learn about prostate cancer, treatment, side effects, and how to cope with the disease and its treatment. Pitt County has two Man to Man facilitators ready to assist men dealing with prostate cancer and meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the McConnell-Raab Hope Lodge Conference Room. Road to Recovery®: Road to Recovery is a transportation assistance program where trained volunteer drivers donate their car, gas and time to transport patients to chemotherapy, radiation, surgery or an initial consult to set up these treatments. Patients must be ambulatory and requests must be received at least five business days prior to scheduled appointments. Hope Lodge®: Getting the right care sometimes means cancer patients must travel away from home, often to a cancer treatment facility in another city. The American Cancer Society is trying to make this difficult situation easier with the 21 currently available Hope Lodges. Hope Lodge provides housing free of charge for patients undergoing outpatient treatment in a supportive and caring environment. Accommodations and eligibility requirements may vary by location. The McConnell – Raab Hope Lodge is available in Greenville, North Carolina. I Can Cope®: I Can Cope is an educational program for people facing cancer, either personally or as a caregiver. The program offers reliable information, peer support, and practical coping skills. This program is currently available at Pitt County Memorial Hospital and Leo Jenkins Cancer Center in Greenville, NC. Dietician On Call: A registered dietician provides free telephone nutrition counseling to anyone touched by cancer. Information is personalized, questions are answered, written materials are sent and follow-up is provided as needed. Patient Advocate: To assist patients and their families with more complex cancer-related issues, we have Licensed Clinical Social Workers available to assist callers with issues such as loss of income, lack of health insurance, locating community resources and assisting with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis. Mammogram Reminder: We offer women a free email mammogram reminder at cancer.org/MammogramReminder 24 Hour Cancer Information Phone Line: We offer the nation’s only 24-hour cancer information phone line (1-800-2272345), where people fighting cancer can turn 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to talk to a trained Cancer Information Specialist (in English and other languages) State-of-the Art Website: We offer a state-of-the-art Web site (cancer.org) where people can learn about all types of cancer, find out how to reduce their risk, locate hospitals, learn about treatment options and clinical trials, local resources and much more.
