SOWG DOCUMENTARIAN REPORT – MER-A (SPIRIT) Thursday, August 5, 2004, in Pasadena, CA; executing Sol 210 and planning for Sol 211 SOWG Chair: Albert Yen SOWG Doc: Brian Hahn LTP Lead: Scott McLennan NOTE: Rover fault on Sol 209 (restricted sol) and implications for Sols 210 and 211 – The rover experienced a fatal during the second Pancam imaging sequence on Sol 209 with an attempt to write to write-protected memory. The planned drive for Sol 209 - which should have placed Spirit in a proper position (with a positive power tilt and the outcrop “Clovis” sufficiently in the IDD work volume) - did not execute. Morning science and the first Pancam imaging sequence were completed. In response, the approved Sol 210 science plan was largely differed to Sol 211 and replaced with the uncompleted sequences and drive from 209. Consequently, Sol 211 will essentially be a repeat of the observations previously scheduled to run in the Sol 210 plan with drop-ins and bonuses where time and power permits. Kick-off and General Notes: Meeting Schedules (8/6): 8:00 Kick-off/SOWG 13:00 End-of-Sol Science Discussion RESTRICTED SOL: Downlink from Sol 210 expected ~16:45 8/5/2004. Today’s Science Plan: Repeat of observations previously planned for Sol 210 - Standard engineering keep out atmospheric remote sensing science; Navcam imaging to complete 360 degree mosaic started on Sol 210; Afternoon atmospheric science and MTES raters of rock outcrops; MTES vertical scans; afternoon Low Sun Pancam survey; PM ODY and AM Sol 211 atmospheric remote sensing science. Discussion of cause and effects of the rover fault on Sol 209. Flash Status: Sufficient available data volume; no specific flash recommendations. Power: 16.5 A-hr; 420 W-hr (predicted from Sol 210). Sol 210 Execution: Afternoon observations and drive sequence did not complete on Sol 209 due to a rover fault. Uncompleted sequences were moved into the Sol 210 plan, and observations formerly planned for Sol 210 were differed to Sol 211. Sol Tree (assuming a successful drive on Sol 210 and completion of Sol 211 sequences; IDD order is tentative due to unknown power constraints): 212 – IDD on undisturbed surface of target on feature “Clovis” (MI mosaic and overnight MB integration); First Pancam Octant; Limited Remote Sensing 213 – Continued IDD (Finish MB integration; overnight APXS); Second Pancam Octant; Limited Remote Sensing 214 – BRUSH target on feature “Clovis”; Post-Brush IDD (MI mosaic and overnight APXS); Third Pancam Octant 215 – Continued Post-Brush IDD (overnight MB integration); Forth Pancam Octant; Limited Remote Sensing 216 – RAT target on feature “Clovis”; Post-RAT IDD (MI mosaic and overnight APXS); Fifth Pancam Octant 217 + Continued systematic IDD on feature “Clovis” and Pancam Octants 1 of 3 9:33 PM 2/17/2016 State of Health: Rover: Rover fault on Sol 209; otherwise healthy and recovered. Pancam: Healthy. MiniTES: No data; Healthy. MI: No data; Healthy. APXS: No data; Healthy. MB: No data; Healthy. RAT: Ready.
