READING CLUB

Type: Seminar (35 hours)
Addressed to : 25 Teachers of English as a foreign language in Secondary Education. Teachers
teaching in English can apply too. A minimum of 10 teachers is required.
Justification:
Besides being a pleasure, reading books in English contributes not only to the development of
communicative competence but also to the reading competence in that language. In this seminar
different types of books will be read and analyzed.
Aims:

To get the chance to improve communicative competente through reading .
To get to know specific vocabulary
To share experiences and views on three books or novels.
Contents:

Individual reading of three books.

Sharing and debating the three books bearing in mind the following criteria:

Their literary values regarding style, language and structure
-
Their topics, ethics and points of social interest
-
The way they can be used for didactic purposes
Methodology:
During this seminar, three books will be read and debated.

On the first day participants will have the chance to talk about their interests regarding
books and three books from a list will be chosen (please note that the CAP/ILZ cannot
provide them). The methodology will be explained in the first session.

On each of the following days a selected book will be debated. Before the meeting
participants will have to read the book and send a worksheet by email answering some
questions on it.
The main aim is to share different views and opinions on the books. The teacher will try to
encourage a debate in which didactic purposes will also appear.

Timetable: From 18:30 to 20:00
Signing up:
The last day to sign in will be Thursday 25th of September.
Language
The seminar will be taught in English and being able to debate in this language is a must.
Criteria of selection
If more than 25 teachers are keen on taking part in the seminar, the following criteria will be
applied:
1- Belonging to the category of teachers the seminar is addressed to.

If for whatever reason an admitted teacher cannot finally take part in the seminar, he or she must let
the organisation before the activity starts. Teachers that do not do so may not be admitted in future
activities.
