No. 138 SENATE RESOLUTION In Memory of John Stricklin Bridges, Jr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the family and many friends of John Stricklin Bridges, Jr., in mourning the loss of this distinguished Texan; and WHEREAS, A highly respected man in his community, Mr. Bridges graduated from Auburn University in 1942 with a degree in mechanical engineering; he went to work for Dow Chemical Company and remained with that company until he retired; and WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Bridges was a charter member of Saint Timothy Episcopal Church of Lake Jackson; and WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, Mr. Bridges is remembered for the affection, confidence, and loyalty he inspired in those with whom he was associated; and WHEREAS, Always active in civic affairs, Mr. Bridges made notable contributions to his community; he helped found the Republican Party in Brazoria County and was an active supporter of the Boy Scouts of America in the 1950s and the 1960s; and WHEREAS, Highly esteemed by his fellow citizens, Mr. Bridges was unquestionably a man of high principles and integrity, and his death is a profound loss for his community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: his wife, Virginia Dabney Bridges; his daughter, Emily Bridges Cluthe; his son, John Stricklin Bridges III; his brother, Hugh Bridges; and his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Stricklin Bridges, Jr. _____________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on February 3, 1993, by a rising vote. _____________________________________ Secretary of the Senate _____________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
