Career Essay
You will complete a 3 or more-page MLA style essay on a career developed through the
Bridges process. Value: 100 pts. Rough. Printed Bridges, Occupational handbook and
other sites: 50 pts. for resources. Due Friday, March 4 – typed and complete. Must have a
works cited page. Final draft due March Friday, 11.
Required:
1) 3-5 sources for your research, minimum—
Bridges, Occupational Outlook Handbook, Employment Development Dept.,
ASVAB site, Career Voyages, Career Zone, a book, websites listed in Bridges
Connections, and web sites linked on the other resource web sites
2) 3 pages minimum of text and analysis
3) Cite all information in each paragraph with article title and database used :
(“What They Do” Bridges).
4) Typed: double-spaced, Times New Roman font, 12 pt. size, one inch margins
Last name and page # at top right corner of every page
Title page required.
5) Include printouts of all work, including all 3 databases.
6) Share Rough/Final google document with me. Rough draft shared with 2 people.
Introduction:
Overview of the career
Motivation of why you chose the career to explore
Background of the impact, importance, and future of the career
Plan of Development – one sentence: List the criteria you will cover in the paper :
Education, training, skills, tasks, earnings, outlook, advancement, working
conditions, etc.
Thesis statement about the career and its importance and need in one sentence,
underlined.
Body paragraphs:
Background on the career and a full description with duties and tasks, and type of work
Each paragraph begins with one of the criteria in a sentence that describes it:
Cover all areas of career – especially earnings, outlook, working conditions,
advancement, training and education, etc.
Support with citations after each of the facts and information telling us where you found
the information.
Explanation and clarification, or discussion on each of the criteria in depth. Use all
required sources to assist in the depth of the discussion
Conclusion:
Wrap up with motivation and overview, as well as a summary of the criteria details.
Be sure to revisit all your main points, ideas, and assertions, plus value of career.
