URV’s contribution to accomplish with WP3’s objectives for the reporting period
(3rd year):
- Assessment of time varying influence of SST and atmospheric circulation on
European surface temperature and precipitation.
- Effects on Mediterranean droughts.
Summary of the work:
URV’s focused its contribution to fulfil WP3’s objectives on the following activities:
- To define the whole procedures for adjusting on a daily basis 22 long-term
Spanish precipitation records, including data archaeology and rescue, quality
control procedures and homogeneity assessment.
- To adjust on a daily basis the 22 precipitation records, aiming the development
of the Spanish Daily Adjusted Precipitation Series (SDAPS)
- To contribute with these daily adjusted Spanish records to develop the
EMULATE precipitation dataset.
- To transform the 22 precipitation daily records in several selected climatic
extreme indices by employing RClimDex software (i.e. CDD, R99, SDII, etc.),
aiming to analyse changes in climate extremes occurrence.
- To explore changes in extreme precipitation occurrence over Spain
- To assess Spanish drought episodes across the 20th century by means of a
comparison exercise between the scPDSI and the IESP drought indices
