B.S. with a major in Mathematics The Bachelor of Science with a major in Mathematics is designed to allow flexibility in the curriculum for a student who may have diversified interests particularly in a field unrelated to mathematics. This degree is designed to pair nicely with a second major or a minor. Additionally, those seeking education licensure would complete this degree. A sample plan for the education students is given in a separate document. Electives within the mathematics component of the program allow for adequate preparation for graduate work in mathematics or employment in mathematics-related positions outside of education. Most graduates who have completed this program do take high school mathematics teaching positions. However, some have elected to go on to graduate school in mathematics with an eye toward a career in research or university teaching. Others have taken positions in industry or business (including actuarial positions). Program Requirements This degree requires the completion of at least 120 semester hours, including at least 42 hours of general education, at least 35 hours of mathematics, and at least 6 hours of computer science. The completion of a minor is strongly encouraged. Sample Plans of Study What follows are sample plans of study.
