The council will provide barbecued hamburgers and brats. Members are asked to bring an hors d'oeuvre, a salad, or a dessert. This is a good opportunity to do some recruiting by inviting any prospective members and their families. Let's all make an effort to invite at least one man and his family. In addition, awards will be presented to recognize some of our knights who made significant contributions to the council during the last fraternal year. Social Hour starts at 4pm, eat at 5:30pm, awards at 6:30pm. To cover the council's cost the cowboy hat will be passed around. Chairmen for the event are Ed Husler, John Perry and Dick Bryant. Annual Religious Icon Service – Tues, August 17 Each year the Supreme Council selects a religious icon to be venerated at a special prayer service. At this time we do not know the name/title selected for this year’s Icon. We will identify the Icon in the Sunday bulletins of our parishes in early August. The Icon Service for our Council will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 17 at 7PM at St. Martin de Porres Church. Special prayers prescribed by our Supreme Council for this event will be recited. The Service will only take about one hour. Please come and participate in this special service. Corporate Communion – Sun, August 29 All members of Boulder Council 1183 and their families and friends are invited to join together for our quarterly Corporate Communion on Sunday, August 29 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at the 10:00 AM Mass. This will give us an excellent opportunity to ask for and pray for special blessings throughout the coming school year for the children, the parents, the grandparents and, in some cases, the great-grandparents. You may also invite a prospective member and his family to join us. PLEASE put this date and event on your calendar!!! End of Summer Picnic - Sun, Sept 12. We will have an end-of-summer picnic from 4pm to 7pm on Sunday, September 12th. Burgers, brats and hot dogs will be available along with lemonade and beer. If you have other drinks or entrees you would like, please feel free to bring enough to serve and share. Please plan on bringing desserts, chips, salads or other side dishes to make this a fun event! Grill service will be 3 from 5pm to 6pm and we'll have time to talk and enjoy the end of the summer. Please bring family and any friend who might be interested in the Knights. Volunteers are needed to help: 1 additional grill master, 1 drink steward and 2 volunteers to help with clean-up. Please contact Jeremy Buch (jeremy@buch.org, 720-271-5486) for questions or to offer help - I hope to see everyone for dinner Mentally Handicapped Drive - Sat. Sept 18 On Saturday, Sept. 18, our council will conduct its annual Tootsie Roll drive at the stores. King Soopers stores on Table Mesa Drive and at 30th & Arapahoe and Safeway stores at Thunderbird Shopping Center and at Iris will be available for us to solicit donations for those with developmental disabilities. From last year's campaign we were able to give $1,090 to each Imagine and Carmel Community Living. Both a morning shift, 9-12noon and an afternoon shift, 1-4pm will be available and of course the whole day for those who wish to go out for both shifts. In making a commitment to help with this year's drive, let us all keep in mind Matthew 25:40, The king will answer them, "I can guarantee this truth: Whatever you did for one of my brothers or sisters, no matter how unimportant [they seemed], you did for me." Chairman Dick Bryant. HOME ASSOCIATION – Wed, Sept 29, 7:30 pm On Arpil 16 and 17 workdays were held at the hall. Over the course of these two days, ceiling tiles were replaced and ceiling grids painted in the kitchen, the drinking fountain was removed from the wall in the back hallway, the kitchen walls were painted and repair work was done on a light fixture in the ceiling of the dining area. On March 29 another workday was held when all kitchen items, previously removed for painting the kitchen walls, were put back. For these work days I want to recognize and thank John Vanni, Joe and Mary Ann Hibl, John Perry, George Morzinski. A special thanks to John Vanni for installing the ceiling tiles in the kitchen and for doing the excellent work of painting the walls of the kitchen. John also supplied new ceiling tiles and the paint for the kitchen at no cost to the Home Association. This Spring with the abundant rains the front lawn has needed to be mowed more than a couple of times. For mowing the front I want thank Ed Husler and Joe Hibl. In advance I want to thank John Spritzer and his crew for installing our new fence along the front sidewalk. John has now begun this project and will have it done this summer. Finally, the work of maintaining our building and property is to be shared by all members of Council 1183 and not left to just a few men who then carry the unfair burden of doing all the work. Taking part in workdays is an excellent opportunity to spend time with other knights when strong bonds of fellowship can be formed. In addition, working on projects develops a pride in the building and property, where one takes an interest in its upkeep because he sees it as his own. Our next meeting is Wed., Sept. 29, 7:30pm. All are welcome. President Dick Bryant. Denver Archdiocese "Focus 11 2010, October 4, 5 & 6. Focus 11 is a national vocations awareness program designed to attract youth towards religious vocations. This will be the sixth year our Archdiocese has held Focus 11 for the 1000 plus Catholic youth expected. The youth are divided into separate groups for each of the 3 days. October 4th & 5th are for 11 year olds and Oct 6th is for the 11th graders. Each year this religious vocations program has been refined to make it better and more productive than the previous year. So how does one utilize the limited time in a single day to effectively nurture religious vocations awareness in our Catholic youth? Why don't you come and see for yourself and offer your help in making Focus 11 a success. There are a variety of jobs that need to be accomplished. If you have any questions or would like to help, call George Morzinski at 303417-0123. A prerequisite to helping at Focus 11 is VIRTUS certification required by the Archdiocese when working with youth. One big change in Focus 11 this year is that the 11th grade boys program on Oct. 6th will be located at St. John Vianney Seminary. This will allow the young men to see first hand the seminary with its beautiful chapel, have lunch with the seminarians and talk to some of the instructors. All the other programs for the 11 year olds and the 12th grade girls will be held at Holy Trinity Parish and School in Westminister as it was done last year. The Archdiocese relies on the two international Catholic lay organizations affiliated with the Vatican that have strong vocations charters; namely the Colorado Knights of Columbus and the District 6 Serra Clubs, for help with their vocations programs. These two organizations have a proven track record in their commitment to prayer, support and service related to the religious vocations requests of the Archdiocese. Thanks to all the Knights and Serrans who have been collecting "God's Stuff" items for Focus 11 participants. George will continue to be collecting your extra religious items up to the weekend before Focus 11 at either KC or Serra Meetings. Also this year I will collecting cookies on the Oct. 2nd weekend in support of the Serrans 1500 cookie goal. John Mantey, Editor 185 Cordova Ct. Boulder, CO 80303-4906 303 494 3703 jpmantey@ieee.org
