February 2011 RMI/RMA PRESS RELEASE Richter Chemie-Technik, Germany : Plastic-lined magnetic drive pump RMI and RMA Magnetic drive pump for medium-duty process applications in ISO/DIN and ASME/ANSI design Richter Chemie-Technik is known as the 1st choice in the process industry with its plastic-lined magnetic drive process pumps for conveying corrosive, environmentally critical and high-purity fluids, especially with high pressure and temperature requirements and large flow volumes. Operators' requirements now tend to lie in the medium to low range for many of the new and expanded fields of application. As a consequence, Richter Chemie-Technik has developed magnetic drive pumps whose design is tailored to this medium range of requirements. The company launched the plastic-lined magnetic drive process pump RMA in ASME/ANSI design in 2009, available from 1.5 x 1 x6” to 3 x 2 x 10”. It is now being followed by the ISO/DIN version RMI: The sealless magnetic drive pump with a fluoroplastic lining is available in eight sizes from 40-25-125 to 80-50-200 as a frame-mounted and close-coupled pump. These mag-drive pumps impress with their pure PFA lining without carbon fillers – this is a topquality lining with a uniform thickness of 3 to 5 mm, which is anchored vacuum-proof. This material offers very high chemical resistance, temperature resistance up to 150°C, full FDA conformity as well as inertness versus pure fluids. Another feature is the outstanding permeation resistance of PFA. Whereas the housing and impeller/magnet assembly are lined with pure PFA, pure PTFE is used for the wetted part of the dual can made of carbon-fibrereinforced plastic. The basic safety features of a plastic-lined magnetic drive process pump from Richter were naturally retained. For example, plain bearings of the design “SAFEGLIDE® PLUS” made of silicon carbide (SSiC) are used: they offer protection against dry running for 30 to 60 min. Moreover, the pump surface is designed to be very wear-resistant thanks to external corrosion protection (epoxy coating). Page 1 of 4 February 2011 RMI/RMA The full-surface ductile cast iron shell according to EN-JS 1049/ ASTM A395 absorbs pipework forces and eliminates the need for expansion joints. In the event of rolling bearing failure, a thrust ring protects the can against damage from a possibly tumbling drive magnet assembly The properties of the magnetic drive pump RMI, at a glance: The entire pump is FDA-compliant Minimum life-cycle costs and very easy maintenance (double back-pull-out design facilitates maintenance work on the motor and rolling bearings without releasing the system pressure) Designed with high efficiency (high-performance permanent magnets made of neodymiumiron-boron and samarium-cobalt; these guarantee a constant magnetic energy density even at high operating temperatures; patented magnet attachment underneath the PFA lining) The can is eddy-current-free – as a result, no heating of the fluid and no energy waste (metal-free dual can system, made of thick-walled, pure PTFE on the wetted side; the discharge side has a carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic with high safety reserves) Flexibility with regard to the fluids thanks to universal corrosion resistance and high-quality external corrosion protection The solids restriction rings in the housing and magnet assembly prevent the ingress of particles into the can area, permitting the conveyance of solids-containing fluids Split impeller/magnet assembly design minimises the variety of parts and therefore the volume kept in stock. Flow capacity o Delivery head o up to 360 ft (110 m) at 50 Hz Pressure o up to 660 USgpm (150 m3/h) at 50 Hz up to 290 psi (20 bar) Temperature range o Page 2 of 4 -30°C (-20°F) up to 150°C (300°F) in plants acc. to ISO standards February 2011 RMI/RMA Conclusion: These pumps are a genuine alternative to pumps made of expensive, long-leadtime metals (e.g. Hastelloy®, tantalum etc.), full plastic pumps, plastic-lined mechanical seal pumps, metallic pumps with double mechanical seals and a liquid sealing or quenching system as well as stainless steel magnetic drive pumps. The Richter series RMI and RMA were developed as an economical-priced alternative to these conventional solutions. With an intentionally reduced range of options and accessories, they are designed for lighter to medium-duty applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical and petrochemical, semiconductor, pulp, metal, food processing and waste disposal/recycling industries. Thanks to its service-friendly design, its good hydraulics and the overall good value for money with low life-cycle costs, the RMI and the RMA are maybe the most economical magnetic drive pumps on the market. So Richter is capable of delivering a suitable plastic-lined pump for all kind of applications.
