JUNE 2012
June 1, 2012
Dear Parents:
Here we are in June and the end
of the school year. I am also taking
the opportunity to let you know that it
is also the end of my teaching career.
I am retiring from TCDSB on June 30, 2012,
so this is my last month at work.
We have celebrated First Communion and
Confirmation. Thank you Mrs. Maguire and
Mr. Sedef. We had our very successful trip to
Ottawa with the Grade 7 & 8 students.
We all enjoyed the 25th Anniversary celebration.
Thank you Mrs. Bardowell and the 25th Anniversary
Committee. Now we are writing EQAO and CAT4 and
getting ready for year-end picnics and class trips before graduation.
I wish each and every one of our families a relaxing and safe summer.
Information regarding your new principal for September 2012 will be
coming home before the end of June. Please welcome your new principal
with as much warmth and support as you showed to me. I thank all of
your for a wonderful two years here at The Divine Infant. Harry Murphy,
the founding principal at The Divine Infant, was right when he called the
school “the Gem of Scarborough”.
Yours in Christ,
P. Chambers

Description of Episode
– Journey of the Cross:
Ten years after World Youth Day Toronto, the students of Neil McNeil Catholic Secondary have built
another cross. Known as the "Witness to Faith Cross," it is travelling to all the schools in the Toronto
Catholic District School Board during the 2011-2013 academic years. An affirmation of faith amidst
mounting political pressure to end government funding for Catholic schools in Ontario. The Board hopes
that by bearing witness, young Catholics will come to a fuller understanding of the role of faith in their lives
and in the life of our society as a whole. Join host Sebastian Gomes as he follows the travelling cross and
sheds light on the challenges of witnessing to faith for Catholic education in Ontario today.

The Ontario Ministry of Education has recently purchased a
subscription to Scholastic’s BookFlix for K-Grade 3 students. BookFlix
is an interactive, online literacy resource that pairs classic video
storybooks with related nonfiction texts. This engaging resource will
help early readers (K-Gr. 3) develop and practice essential reading
skills. Bookflix is quite intuitive and easy to navigate. Each unit
includes the following elements:
 Watch the Story: streaming video of the story. A Read
Along option can be activated to display the audio
portion of the story, with word-by-word highlighting, as
it plays.
 Read the Book: related nonfiction text presented in a flipbook format. The Read
Along option can be activated to hear the text read aloud with word-by-word
highlighting. Key content vocabulary words are highlighted in yellow. Placing the
cursor on the highlighted word will display its definition, and the ear icon can be
clicked to hear the definition read aloud.
 Puzzlers: interactive games related to the specific pair. Ear icons can be clicked
to hear the game directions, as well as all statements and definitions, read aloud.
 Meet the Author: a profile of the author of the story. An ear icon can be clicked
to hear the profile read aloud.
