BRITISH FASCIA SYMPOSIUM 25th & 26th June 2016 Speaker/Teacher Guidelines The aim of the British Fascia Symposium (BFS) is to promote the awareness and understanding of fascia and to present current thinking, evidence and practice in addressing fascia as well as increasing the understanding and appreciation of this tissue. The last symposium in 2104 was an enormous success, with over 300 delegates from around the world and the enthusiastic feedback leads us to expect that BFS 2016 will be even more successful. The BFS is designed to be “practice-led” and as accessible as possible, giving working therapists the tools and knowledge they need to inform their clinical practice. The aim of the BFS committee is to present an event which enlightens, excites and educates delegates and interests them in the world of fascia. Our ethos is to inform and educate as a community. We aim for an impartial event bringing the many and varied aspects of fascia to the delegates without imparting a sense of division or competition. The British Fascia Symposium is seeking speakers and workshop facilitators who will prioritise the therapist and inspire them to develop their knowledge and training in fascia. As many attendees may well be relatively new to the field of fascia, as well as to attending conferences, we encourage speakers to present their work in a manner which makes their subject accessible and comprehensible to both the experienced and the novice therapist. Preference will be given to speakers presenting practical applications, and where explanations are couched in straightforward, accessible terms. This is not a scientific conference and whilst themes discussing current scientific thinking are very welcome, this should not be the focus for presenters. Speakers are invited to present on an aspect of fascia which excites them and which will excite the audience. They are specifically requested not to promote their own methods, courses or products, or to make claims about the validity or efficacy of their techniques or approaches, unless these are being presented as part of a peerreviewed publication. Speakers should not present as fact any un-evidenced theories or techniques. Whilst theoretical and hypothetical conjecture is the norm, the lack of evidence should be made clear. Whilst the questioning of theories and the challenging of current thinking is encouraged and indeed what the event is all about, speakers are specifically requested not to comment negatively on the techniques of other methods. Speakers will be introduced and their background made clear by the chair of each session. Additional programme notes will also allow a degree of promotion. Speakers must provide, two weeks in advance of the date of the conference, digital copies of PowerPoint or Keynote presentations redacted so that any copyrighted material is removed. This is so that we can supply the delegates with the presentations. Guidelines on how to do this will be sent to all accepted speakers. Workshop facilitators should be experienced presenters with the skill to impart knowledge that can be taken away and safely used by the attendees within their own modality. Workshop facilitators will be introduced and their books/courses etc. will be promoted on their behalf at the end of the session. They are therefore advised that self-promotion during the workshop is actively discouraged and they should let the quality of their work speak for itself. Workshop presenters will be required to carry professional indemnity insurance and to provide evidence of this to the event organisers. The organisers accept no liability for loss or damage to any equipment provided or used by the speaker. Speakers are asked to be present two hours before the speaking slot, unless otherwise pre-arranged with the event organiser. Speakers are requested to allow sufficient time at the end of their presentation for questions and answers. As the event is very tightly timed, will be firmly held to finishing their talks, including Q&As, on time.
