REPORTS TO: Contracted Services Coordinator/ Managing Director
WAGE: Hourly
JOB SUMMARY
This part-time visual arts instructor will be responsible for developing in each student an interest
in and ability for creative expression in the visual arts, using skills and techniques of artistic
expression consistent with Locust Street Art’s guidelines. Also assist in gathering relevant
information for granting agencies and funders, including registration information, attendance,
and conducting evaluation processes as needed with LSA administration.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
● Knowledge and skills in relevant artistic discipline
● Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances
● Demonstrated good management skills of studio classes
● Commitment to working in nontraditional settings, and a working vehicle
● Ability to work comfortably with different age groups and diverse student populations
● Associate or Bachelor’s degree (or currently pursuing) in a visual art medium OR
relevant professional experience
● Experience teaching small groups preferred but not necessary
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
● Support each student in developing artistic skills and vision while challenging them to
progress technically and aesthetically
● Prepares lesson plans and assists students in establishing artistic goals
● Ability to create, maintain, and instruct a project based curriculum
● May direct planning and supervision of student contests and arranging of art exhibits
● Ensure attendance is accurate and evaluation forms are distributed and collected
● Set up and cleanup of classroom spaces as necessary
● Mentor Assistants professionally and personally
● Represent Locust Street Art while working in the community, at events, or in
presentations for local community partners
● Collect registration information when needed, communicate mission, class schedule,
and location of classrooms, bathrooms, and/or offices to students and guests
