herewith apply for breeding status and agree to abide by the Breeders Code
of Conduct as stipulated:
1. Strive to bring the Biewer Terrier’s natural qualities, beauty, temperament and conformation to
perfection through careful breeding selection, using the ‘provisional breed standard’ as the only
standard of excellence for the Biewer Terrier.
2. Continuously attempt to become more knowledgeable regarding the genetics of the
Biewer Terrier, the evaluation of traits present in a breeding dog’s immediate and extended family
and refrain from using dogs for breeding which, although unaffected with a specific physical or
temperament defect, consistently produce afflicted offspring with different mates. Line breeding will
only be permitted twice and only for specific genetic traits.
3. Breed only physically and mentally sound dogs that have been evaluated for hereditable disorders
among which luxating patella and porto-systemic shunts or incorrect bite, in order to ensure the
breed of only healthy dogs, free of genetic and heritable defects.
4. Register all puppies with the BTCSA, keep complete and accurate records of all litters, mating and
pedigrees and not later than 4 months of date of birth provide the buyer with a certified executed
Registration of Pedigree and DNA profile, unless registration materials are withheld and a written
statement is provided to the new owner of when and under what conditions they will be provided,
e.g. until the time of spay or neuter by the new owner is verified by a veterinarian.
5. Have all my breeding dogs micro chipped with Virbac Back Home and DNA tested in order for the
BTCSA to establish a DNA profile from which breeding lines and paternity can be evaluated in order
to provide only truthful representation about the sire, dam and offspring when selling or advertising
any puppies and to provide full disclosure regarding any health concerns as well as to guarantee
further progression toward the ideals of the original German standard.
6. Provide all persons acquiring dogs from me with appropriate documentation on dietary,
immunization and inoculation requirements; also encouraging prompt qualified medical attention
should they become sick or injured.
7. Undertake the task of educating and encouraging all newcomers to the world of purebred
Biewer Terriers, no matter their interest: pet owner, or breeder.
8. Employ careful screening practices for potential puppy owners and maintain contact with the
dogs and their owners to be able to monitor and evaluate the development of my breeding program
and to remain available for advice and mentoring.
9. Provide my clients with a BTCSA approved written purchase agreement for all puppy sales and
stud services.
10. Provide the Committee of the BTCSA with a motivational statement of intent to rectify a specific
breeding problem.
11. Actively promote quality and integrity in breeding programs, thereby making it of paramount
importance to protect and improve the original German standard, heritage, quality, temperament
and welfare of the breed.
12. Refrain from breeding a Biewer Terrier to any breed other than a purebred and registered
Biewer Terrier and from providing stud services to any female dog other than a purebred and
registered Biewer Terrier.
13. No Biewer Terrier female may be used in a breeding program under the age of 13 months. No
exceptionally small Biewer female should be bred with.
