Job Title: Glasgow Film Oral History Project Manager
Reports to: Festival Producer
Responsible for: Voluntary staff
About the Project:
Cinema City is a project run by Glasgow Film Theatre which aims to educate and
inspire visitors and locals on the fascinating cinema heritage of Glasgow and its
environs. From spring 2014 we will enlist volunteers to gather memories from local
residents to gain a comprehensive portrait of cinema-going throughout the 20th
century. The stories will form part of an exhibition, which we will develop with our
collaborators, Summerlee Museum, to be staged during Glasgow Film Festival 2015
in a venue in Glasgow.
Main Purpose of Post:
The Project Manager will oversee all aspects of the project, from recruiting volunteers
to researching and approaching appropriate participants. You will train in oral history
collection, motivate volunteers, identify areas of research and lead the project
forward. You will work with Summerlee Museum to curate an exhibition which will
take place during Glasgow Film Festival in February 2015. You will be responsible for
finding the exhibition venue and arranging all printed materials for it. You will work
with GFT’s Marketing team to promote the event and will manage and maintain the
Project budget working closely with the Financial Controller to process all
expenditure.
Job duties:
 Researching, identifying and approaching local cinema contacts and suitable
members of the community for participation with the project
 Recruiting, training and supervising 8-12 enthusiastic voluntary staff to act as
oral history assistants
 Successfully motivating your team to gather a target of 50 memories over the
course of 3 months
 Undertaking training at Scottish Oral History Centre
 Reviewing Summerlee cinema equipment and identifying artefacts for
exhibition
 Sourcing and securing a Glasgow exhibition space
 Liaising with Marketing team to promote event
 Recruiting an artist to design publication materials
 Overseeing all aspects in the set-up of exhibition during Glasgow Film
Festival 2015
 Updating databases and compiling reports as required
 Processing Purchase orders, maintaining financial records and delivering the
project on-budget
Person specification:
Relevant experience in a similar role
Demonstrable interest and experience of oral history and cinema heritage
Experience of organising pop-up events, venues or exhibitions
Understanding of technical requirements at exhibitions
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to foresee and respond to problems before they arise
Friendly team player with ability to motivate teams and work hard on own initiative
Experience of working with budgets
Excellent customer service skills
Excellent attention to detail
Degree level preferred but not essential
Terms and Conditions:
This is a fixed term 10 month contract. Full-time hours (37 per week) typically from
10am – 6pm, based at Glasgow Film Festival’s office at Glasgow Film Theatre, 12
Rose Street, Glasgow, G3 6RB.
Salary Between £20,000 - £22,500 pro rata depending on experience. To be
negotiated.
Start Date: June 2014
End Date: March / April 2015
