Ongoing Tasks for ReStore Volunteers Initial and date with dry erase marker next to task when completed. 1. Electronics Recycling a. Empty collection boxes on the sales floor and put onto truck 2. Donation Bay a. Assist with unloading donations (be sure to have a staff member assess the donation before accepting it) b. Place new items in “Pricing Area” unless otherwise directed c. Take all appliances to the back of the Warehouse for testing 3. Cabinets (located in Aisle #1 & #2) a. Check inside drawers and doors of each cabinet i. Remove trash, nails, personal items, broken parts etc. from interior and throw away b. Wipe down the front of the cabinet c. Line cabinet up along yellow line in the row 4. Cabinets – Put on Knobs & Pulls a. Put knobs or pulls on cabinets that are missing them i. Use the knobs/pulls in the store 5. Countertops a. Measure each countertop and write dimensions on it b. Clean countertops 6. Parking Lot (front and back) a. Pick up trash, sticks, bricks, etc. in parking lot and up by the building. b. Check bricks area (in front of store) and make sure bricks are stacked neatly 7. Window Blinds a. Measure length and width of each blind b. Roll blind up and write dimensions on the blind c. Be sure to wrap the cords and tilt wand up 8. Carpet Remnants a. Unroll each carpet remnant b. Measure width and length c. Roll back up d. Wrap with plastic wrap to keep from unrolling e. Write dimensions on the rug using tape f. Put in carpet remnants section of store 9. Small Electronics and Appliances a. Test small electronics and appliance (i.e. toasters, coffee makers, weed whippers, blenders etc.) by plugging them item in to see if they work b. If ok, put label on it that says “Tested OK on [date]” c. Coil up cord and tape so it doesn’t hang down d. If item does not work i. Put into Electronics Recycling box 10.Cabinet Knobs and Pull a. Separate knobs from pulls b. Put similar colors together in bins and put on shelf Ongoing Tasks for ReStore Volunteers 11. Hardware Section a. Sort through boxes one at a time i. Using 3 boxes (more if needed) make categories for the items you find in the box i.e. Box 1 = Door Knobs, Box 2 = Hinges, Box 3 = Nails, Box 4 = Miscellaneous (or items that you’re not sure of) ii. Sort through the entire box iii. Throw away trash, broken items iv. Label boxes when you are finished 12.Kitchen and Bathroom Sinks a. Clean sink bowls and surfaces i. Use a rag and Windex to wipe down the bowls, faucets and countertops (where applicable) b. Remove any trash or hardware in the bowl or on the shelves or floor c. Put kitchen sinks together and group bathroom sinks together on the shelves d. Price sinks as follows i. $40 with a faucet ii. $30 without a faucet 13. Lightbulbs a. Test lightbulbs in boxes (located in the “Ligthing Room” i. Use one of the table lamps in the store to test the bulbs ii. Discard those that don’t work b. Sort by type and watts 14.Window Blinds a. b. c. d. e. Sort and measure blinds Write measurements on blinds Wrap up cords and rods Group on shelves by size Put tall blinds against wall in corner by shelf 15. Paint – New & Donated a. Line up cans along yellow line and at edge of shelves with labels facing forward b. Dust off tops of each can c. Group same colors together (especially for Everybody’s Paint and donated paint/stain) d. Open cans of “donated paint” and put a swatch of the color on the lid. i. Be sure to tap the lid down securely ii. If the paint is bad, take to the back of the warehouse to be recycled 1. Write “Paint is Bad” on top of the can 16. Doors a. Measure each door (height and width) and write dimensions on door b. If the door has glass in it, clean the glass 17. Windows a. Measure each window (height and width) and write dimensions on window b. Clean the glass in each window Ongoing Tasks for ReStore Volunteers 18. Large Appliances a. Clean interior and exterior of appliances (i.e. refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, etc.) i. Use Windex and a rag or papertowel ii. Use Goof-Off for stuck-on grime or paint b. Wrap up cords and secure to the appliance 19. Upholstered Furniture a. Straighten cushions and pillows b. Wipe off dust c. Add arm-covers where applicable 20. Furniture With Shelves a. Check items such as bookcases, entertainment centers, etc. to see that the shelves are in place b. If shelves are not in place, find pegs and put them in 21. Bed Frames a. Tie headboards and footboards together b. Attach bedrails to headboard/footboards if available
