FREEDOM HIGH SCHOOL LES CHANTEURS CONTRACT 2013 -14 The FHS Les Chanteurs is an auditioned mixed vocal group of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Music will be studied and rehearsed from a variety of musical styles and will include texts that are both sacred and secular. Students will participate in activities that include sight singing, basic vocal technique, reading music notation, singing individual parts, and expression. Les Chanteurs will also contribute to the musical life of the community through concert and community performances. As a member of the FHS Les Chanteurs you must make every effort to maintain a commitment to the group. Participation in on and off campus performances is expected. This is a performance group, and is open to students that understand and wish to maintain the standards of a high quality performance ensemble. Please review the entire contract, with special attention to the standards and expectations indicated below. Once you have reviewed the standards and contract please sign and return the detachable portion with the appropriate signatures. As a member of the FHS Les Chanteurs I understand that being in Les Chanteurs is a privilege and I agree to abide by the following standards of performance: 1. All Les Chanteurs members will be members of the Freedom High School Choir. If unable to remain enrolled in choir during block 1 due to course scheduling issues, members are required to rehearse individually with the director(s) after school for a minimum of 30 min. per week in order to maintain participation in Les Chanteurs. 2. All Les Chanteurs members will follow the standards and expectations outlined in the FHS Choir grading policy (see attached policy and accompanying rubric) to a standard of satisfactory or better. If a Les Chanteurs member should fall to an unsatisfactory evaluation he/she will undergo a probationary period during which they will not be permitted to perform with Les Chanteurs until the next satisfactory evaluation has been received. If a Les Chanteurs member receives an unsatisfactory evaluation for 3 or more evaluation periods he/she will be removed from the group. 3. All Les Chanteurs members will exhibit a positive attitude and be invested in what we are working on. Singing is a physical activity and involves one’s entire body and mind. 4. All Les Chanteurs members will represent our school with dignity when performing both on and off campus. 5. All Les Chanteurs members will attend rehearsals regularly and will communicate with the director(s) ahead of time regarding any potential missed rehearsals or performances. If a rehearsal or performance is missed and was not able to be communicated with the director(s) ahead of time a note is to be given to the director(s) explaining the absence prior to the next scheduled rehearsal. Les Chanteurs members are expected to arrive at rehearsal on time and remain in attendance through the entire rehearsal. Should there be a conflict with full attendance Les Chanteurs members should follow the same procedures of communication as indicated above: communicate with director(s) ahead of time; if that is impossible provide an excusal note. 3 or more unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the group o An excused absence is defined as: an absence that has been communicated to the director(s) ahead of time and deemed an appropriate reason to miss rehearsal; an absence that was communicated to the director(s) by submission of an absent note within 24 hours of a missed rehearsal and deemed an appropriate excuse; an absence from school; a health or family emergency o An unexcused absence is defined as: an absence that was not communicated to the director(s) ahead of time and/or was not communicated through an absent note; an absence excuse that was not deemed an appropriate reason to miss rehearsal Note: Notes can be written by students, they do not have to come from a parent/guardian. All notes should include: first and last name, date of rehearsal or portion of rehearsal missed, and a clear explanation of why the member was not in attendance. Director(s) will excuse the absence based on the legitimacy of the excuse. 6. All Les Chanteurs members will follow all dress code requirements for each performance or field trip. 7. All Les Chanteurs members will work hard to improve themselves, and their singing. Above all Les Chanteurs members should: have fun, remain focused, follow directions, and do their best during all rehearsals, field trips, and performances. Breech of contract: ♫ If a Les Chanteurs member does not abide by these standards, their spot in Les Chanteurs can be filled by another student. First choice will be given to those students who have been participating in choir since the beginning of the year and that are abiding by the standards set forth in the FHS Choir Grading Policy.
