The fellowship provides

UCDC academic courses.
The goal is to help students

public policy and promote
public service.

UCDC’S SUMMER PUBLIC SERVICE FELLOWSHIP
UCDC’s Summer Public Service Fellowship is designed to encourage students to
come to Washington, advance their professional goals, and deepen their civic
engagement and commitment to public service while taking courses at UCDC.
Award-winners can work in virtually any field in the nations’ capital—from nonprofits to federal agencies, think tanks to advocacy organizations or any office with
a public service component, broadly defined. This fellowship also seeks to foster
responsible citizenship, promote ties between California and the nation’s capital,
and reward high-achieving undergraduates from the UC system who want to make
a difference in their communities and internationally.
The Center will award fellowships of $1,000 each in summer 2015. The
fellowship is open to students from any University of California campus living
and working in the nation’s capital this summer, who is: enrolled in at least
four units of academic (non-internship) summer coursework at the UC
Washington Center and interning a minimum of 24 hours a week for ten
weeks.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Fellowship applications are due by 6:00 pm EST on MONDAY, May 4th, 2015.
Documents must be submitted electronically to
UCDCsummersessions@ucdc.edu, and recipients will be announced in late
May.
Note: PDF attachments or word documents are preferred. Be sure that your
name appears in the title of each document you submit: (1) Your
name_Biographical Sheet, (2) Your Name_Short Essay
A complete application must have the following components:
(1) Completed biographical sheet (see application form);
(2) Short essay (no more than 500 words);
(3) Resume (not exceeding one page);
(4) Transcript;
(5) One letter of recommendation

On a separate page, please write an essay of no more than 500 words that explains
why you are interested in enrolling in UCDC academic courses and what you hope
to gain from the program; how winning the fellowship would affect your
participation in the program and enrollment in courses this summer, and what role
you anticipate citizenship, public policy and/or public service will play in your
future career. Feel free to describe any volunteer experiences you have been
involved in, and provide examples of your contributions to public service in the
past and/or your local community and explain how this fellowship will help you
continue to contribute to society.
PART IV: CURRENT RESUME
 Please include a one-page resume highlighting your professional and
academic accomplishments.
PART V: TRANSCRIPT
 An unofficial transcript or online printout is acceptable.
PART VI: LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
 You may use the same letter/s that you used to apply to the UCDC Program,
or you may submit a fellowship-specific letter.
 Please scan and email your letter and send it with your application. If you do
not have a copy of your recommendation letter, please request that your
recommender submit a copy of your letter (as a PDF or word doc) directly
to: UCDCsummersessions@ucdc.edu with your name in the subject line of
the email.
