COSTUME PARADE
& FALL PARTY
Friday, October 29, 2010
2:15 P.M.
The afternoon Costume Parade will run from 2:15 pm - 2:30 pm. The afternoon party will be held from 2:30 pm – 3:15
pm. Weather permitting, the afternoon costume parade will occur outside. Students will exit out the main office doors,
walk around and enter back through the multi-purpose room by the playground. PTA sponsored room parties will
immediately follow the parade. Parents are welcome to come and view the students as they parade outside. Please
park in the side lot or along the street, but please do not park in the bus area in front of the school. Please note: Do not
send any candy or treats as our PTA will provide all refreshments and teachers will monitor students for allergies
Weather Note
If it rains or it is unseasonably cold (30 degrees or below), the parade will not be held. This is due to student safety
and security concerns regarding the monitoring of visitors in the building as well as to spatial issues with moving 849
students throughout the building and the housing of hundreds of adult visitors. In the event of a cancelled parade,
we are grateful for your understanding. We know that our NYE families understand the importance of our school
maintaining a safe and secure environment for our children.
**In the event of rain, we will make our final decision about holding the parade at 1:55 pm.
Party Volunteers
 Please note that for safety and security precautions, only parents who have previously signed up with their room
parent coordinator as a classroom volunteer will be allowed into classroom parties following the parade.
 Parents who are registered with classroom coordinators to assist with classroom parties, are to enter the
building through the main office doors to sign-in and receive their name tag.
COSTUME GUIDELINES
Parents, as you and your child(ren) select costumes for the Costume Parade please keep the following information in
mind.
 Please select a costume that is positive and appropriate.
 Costumes should be simple and easy to put on and take off with little assistance. Students will not be able to
wear costumes to school. Time will be provided for this purpose before the building parade.
 All students are to bring their costumes to school in a bag. Students will dress at school.
 Student costumes should be appropriate for an elementary school environment. Costumes depicting violence,
showing blood, or showing the midriff (stomach) area should not be worn.
 Due to safety reasons, masks cannot be worn and toy weapons and other sharp objects (i.e., wooden swords,
guns) may not be a part of a costume. This practice follows district policy concerning weapons at school.
 Spray cans of any type may not be used at school for make-up purposes (i.e., spray-on hair colors). Make-up will
not be applied at school.
 Students will need to change back into their regular clothing before dismissal.
Fall Party and Costume Parade
DRESSING IN COSTUME AND PARTICIPATION IN THE PARADE AND PARTY IS OPTIONAL. Please contact your child's
teacher if you would like your child not to participate in the parade and/or room party. The school will provide an
alternate activity.
Thank you for your consideration!
