The Unit of Animal Genomics (UAG) searches candidates (with or without PhD thesis) to join a multidisciplinary team on a two year project funded by the Walloon region in collaboration with the Walloon Breeders Association. The objective of the project is to prepare Genomic Selection in Belgian Blue beef cattle. Genomic Selection is used to predict breeding values for important traits such as growth, carcass quality, etc. based on approximately 60000 SNP. These predictions are then used for selection purposes. For this project, approximately 300 young bulls from an experimental station will be genotyped per year. Several phenotypes such as growth, feed intake, conformation, and carcass are recorded at the experimental station. It is planned to add more phenotypes to the experiment. The project involves collaboration with the experimental station for phenotype recording, genotyping and statistical analyses of the experiment. The UAG (http://www.fmv.ulg.ac.be/genmol/Department/Molecular_Genetics/Molecular_Ge netics.htm) is part of the Faculty of Veterinary Medecine (University of Liege) and is localized in the GIGA (http://www.giga.ulg.ac.be) in the Sart-Tilman. Candidates can send their CV to Tom Druet (tom.druet@ulg.ac.be / +32 4 366 91 72) and Michel Georges (michel.georges@ulg.ac.be). The position opens on first October 2009.
