Frequently Asked Questions
1. How is the academic year organized at the University of Liege?
The academic year is divided in 2 semesters (or quadrimestres):

The first semester (Fall) begins mid-September and ends at the end of January
(exam period included);
The second semester (Spring) begins at the beginning of February and ends at
the end of June (exam period included).
It is your responsibility to be at HEC during the teaching and the exams periods!

2. Which courses am I allowed to attend at HEC-ULg?
Courses are determined by the sending university, but confirmed by the host
university. Below are the programs where you are allowed to take courses
provided that you meet the prerequisites (see course description).

3. Where can I find the course description?
The courses are described in the course catalogue. It is available in English and in
French (change language in the upper right corner of the page):

Make sure to check each course description accurately including semester, language
and prerequisites!
4. Where can I find the timetables of my courses?
Timetables are set up for degree-seeking students. Exchange students are
responsible to work out their own timetables based on the existing information.

6. May I attend an annual course during one semester?
If you want to attend an annual course during one semester only, you can do it with
the authorization of the professor. For language courses, it is commonly allowed.
However for the other courses, it is essential to contact the professor and check the
possibility.

7. How many ects can I take during one semester?
At HEC-ULg, the workload is 30 ECTS/semester but we accept programs ranging
from min. 15 ECTS – max. 35 ECTS/semester.
8. Where do I register for the French language course?

9. Who can help me with administrative formalities (city town, bank account)
and with academic issues (learning agreement, courses, timetables)?

10. How far is the Residence on the Sart-Tilman campus from the city?
The Residence on the Sart-Tilman campus is more or less 10 km away from the city
center. It takes +/- 30 minutes to get there from the city center by public transport
(Bus line 48 – Stop Amphithéâtres). However from door to door, you should consider
1 hour.
11. What is the best living option for an exchange student at HEC-ULg?
Living in town is the preferred option for HEC Exchange students. You can contact
the ESN HEC (http://esn.hec-ulg.be/ - http://esn.hec-ulg.be/registration.php ). They
will help you find a place in town called a ‘kot’. Living in town will allow you to benefit
from the town facilities (shopping, bars, cinema, restaurants, etc.).

12. When should I arrive in Liege?
Because the beginning of the exchange period is quite dense, it is highly
recommended to arrive in Liege a few days before the welcoming days. It will allow
you to register at International Relations Office of the University of Liège (Place du 20
Août) before the classes start (no registration during the welcoming days nor during
the weekend).
Furthermore, the welcome day at HEC is strictly MANDATORY. For the Spring 2016,
it will take place on Saturday January 30, 2016 at 10:00 am. Meeting in the main
hall, rue Louvrex 14. Do not miss it! Absence will lead to an immediate stop of the
exchange.
13. What should I do when I arrive in Liege?
First, you have to register at the International Relations Office of the University of
Liège (Place du 20 Août). There, the staff will give you your student card and your ID
and password to access internet (My ULg and HEC virtual campus Lol@
http://lola.hec.ulg.ac.be/ ). They will also sign your arrival form (and at the end of the
stay, your departure form).
14. When may I change my courses program?
Program changes are made in Liege after having attended the Welcoming Session
and some classes. So doing, you have all the necessary information to revise or
confirm your course selection. Changes are made through the during the mobility part
LA change form by February 15, 2016 (EU students should ask their home university
to provide them with their own form). For more information, please read the following

15. How do I register in the courses?
a. LA: Your official enrollment in the courses AND in the exams is made through
the Learning Agreement. Your HEC coordinator will be in charge of this
procedure after submission of your definitive program.
b. Lol@: You are also invited to register in the courses on Lol@ HEC virtual
campus (http://lola.hec.ulg.ac.be/ ) as soon as possible using the ULg
registration number and password received after the registration at the central
IR office (cfr question 9).

16. My course is not on Lol@, what should I do?
a. Only HEC courses are available on Lol@ (Non-HEC courses such as ISLV
French courses, other faculties courses will not be found on the HEC virtual
campus).
b. If a HEC course is not available, go to the class anyway. Some professors do
not simply work with Lol@.
17. My course is locked up on Lol@, what should I do?
If the course is locked up, please contact the professor.
18. What is the grading scale at HEC-ULg?
Grades are ranging from 0 - 20/20. 10/20 is the lowest passing grade.

19. When will I receive my Transcript of Records?
Your transcript will be sent at the end of the exchange period directly to your own
university. For the Fall semester, it will be sent at the end of March, and for the
Spring semester, early July.
20. What are the formalities I have to take into consideration before the final
departure from Liege?
a. Check your academic situation (exams and courses) with the HEC
International Relations office (Rue Louvrex - room 156). Report any exam that
you might have dropped.
b. Check your administrative situation (departure form, survey) with the central
International Relations office, Place du 20 août.
