BAKER.
There appears to have been three distinct families by this name, who settled in S. C. Henry Baker from England: Thomas Baker, former residence not known:
And Richard Baker from Barbadoes. Their records do not disclose any kinship, yet they had grants in the same or adjoining parishes, named their children the same family names in many cases, but their interests seem always separate.

THOMAS BAKER? the first in S. C.
In Secretary of State’s Office, Colombia, S. C. appear land grants to
THOMAS BAKER on Goose Creek, 1703. He died July 13, 1717. His first wife was Rebecca. (See “Memorial Book #3, p. 235” in Mr. Salley’s office, and S. C.
Hist. & Gen. Mag. Vol 29, p. 274.) His second wife was Joannah. Mr. Leconte
Believes she was the sister of William and Aaron Way and that she married first in
New England, Job Chamberlin, who died in S. C. leaving sons Job, Jr., and William
Chamberlin. That the sons she mentions in her will are Job (not John) and William
(Chamberlin). The indications are that “Rebecca” was the mother of all his children.
