POLARIZING A MAHINDRA GENERATOR On Mahindra tractors equipped with a “B” type generator. It is required to polarize the generator any time it is removed, repaired or replaced. You should polarize the generator when you are changing regulators just in case the generator polarity may have been changed. TO POLARIZE THE GENERATOR: With the wires unhooked from the generator, momentarily touch 12 volts Pos. to the Field post on the generator. If it is not mounted, ground the generator case while doing this. This will polarize the generator field magnets to get the correct direction of electrical current flow. Note: The opposite end of the field coil windings in the gen. is attached to ground. When you touch the post end of the fields with (+ 12 volts) it sets the magnets that the field coils are wound around with the correct North & South polarization. If it was backward, the current would flow in the wrong direction. After polarizing, hook all the wires up to the generator & regulator then start the tractor up. TO CHECK VOLTAGE OUTPUT: Check the voltage output while running at the “D” terminal on the generator with a voltmeter. The voltage should read somewhere between 14 to 16 volts. It will always read less than this at the positive battery post due to resistance in the wiring.
