VACANCY: The current opening is at Pleasant Valley School of Engineering and Arts for the Pleasant Valley
Neighborhood for Learning, 5 hr/day, 12 months/yr. (Bilingual preferred - English/Spanish).

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the PV NfL Executive Director, the Lead Early Literacy Teacher will be
responsible for the planning, development and implementation of the Early Literacy Program (Parent & Child Together
Model) and collection of First 5 Ventura County required program evaluation data.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: (Complete job description available at the District Office)
Perform all duties of the Lead Early Literacy Teacher including the management of classroom activities and assisting parents
when necessary. Plan for and provide individualized daily early literacy activities appropriate to the developmental level of
the children birth to five based on the Parent & Child Together Model for PV NfL. Provide lead direction and work in
collaboration with the Early Literacy Teacher to ensure coordination of classroom activities. Provide information and
resources to parents to support the understanding that they are their child’s first teacher. Coordinate with PV NfL Family
Resource Center staff to develop the schedule for parent/child early literacy activities. Perform related duties and
responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Operate a computer and assigned software. Record-keeping and reporting procedures. Correct
English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary. Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills
using tact, patience and courtesy. Child development learning milestones. Knowledge of Community resources. Safe
Basic classroom management methods and techniques.
ABILITY TO: Skill in delivering activities that promotes attainment of milestones. Keep records and statistics. Establish
and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Determine appropriate action within clearly
defined guidelines. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Operate a variety of office machines including computer equipment. Work independently. Plan and organize work. Be
flexible to changing conditions which may alter the direction of operations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the California Commission on
Teacher Credentialing (CCTC).
24 units of ECE/CD including core courses and 16 GE units;175 days of 3+ hours per day within a 4-year
period.
The above may be substituted with:
AA or higher degree in ECE or related field with 3 semester units of supervised field experience in an ECE
setting, or CCTC approved training.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURE: Two-part job related exam. Must achieve a passing score on part one to be eligible to
proceed to part two. Relative exam weight: 40% written; 60% technical/general oral. Bilingual positions will require an
English/Spanish written & oral exam qualifying only.
