Industrial Revolution Progressive Era Research Project In the second half of the 19th century after the Civil War, America had an age of industrialization. The 1800’s was a of great growth, wealth and change. New factories were built using new technology; the country was connected by railroads, and people could communicate more quickly over long distances. Many individuals made their fortunes on these inventions. People started questions the practices of these men and their factories. A huge labor movement formed to fix problems in the work place. Women were also struggling for the right to vote. People were developing ideas that would change people’s lives. This was also the age of inventions. New inventions impacted everyone’s daily lives. Between 1860 and 1890 government granted over 400,000 patents for new inventions. Some of these inventions we still use to today. These developments led the way to Industrialization in America and can be categorizes in one of the following areas: (1) transportation was expanded, (2) electricity was effectively harnessed, and (3) improvements were made to industrial processes, (4) social change, (5) economic advancement Assignment: You will be assigned an important person during 1840-1910. This person impacted America with an invention, generating social change, increasing labor rights, fought for women’s suffrage, or controlled major industries. You will be required write a paper based on this person. You will need to obtain information on their family life, education, employment, interesting facts, major impact created by this person (invention, social changes, ect) during the this time period and how it has carried on today. This will first be recorded in an outline, then transferred into a 3 page, doubled spaced paper. You must include 3 source, work cited page, and use () quotations. Your paper must be email! You will also need to create visual component (power point, prezi, ect) highlighting your persons major points.
