Community Fellowship Institute for Christian Studies Course Registration Condensed Course MIN 101: "Effective Communication: Learning the Basics of Public Speaking/Preaching" When: Friday, April 26th 6:00- 9:00 pm; Saturday, April 27th 9:00 – 11:30 am, 2013 Course Instructors: Aubrey Sampson, Dave McDowell Course Description: Many people list speaking in front of others as their greatest fear—even greater than death, and yet, in our everyday communication, all of us are public speakers in some way. This course will focus on communication skills, techniques and tools for dynamic public speaking, and will include a segment for those interested in preaching/teaching/devotional delivery. There will be a practical speaking/preaching lab attached to this course as well. Course Objectives: 1. To provide basic information and techniques that will help the student gain greater facility and to become more comfortable in their public speaking. 2. To provide a lively and interactive environment that will encourage a little more risk-taking in the area of public speaking by having fun together. 3. To provide some additional practical help and experience in the area of preaching for those who are interested. Course Expectations: 1. To read the text “Purpose Filled Presentations: How Any Christian Can Communicate More Effectively To Anybody, Anytime, Anywhere” by Tony Jeary, and other assigned materials. 2. To participate actively in the class. 3. To allow yourself the enjoyment of overcoming the limitations imposed by the fear of public speaking, and quite possibly to allow God to uncover a gift.
