Major Project – Unit 1 Cells, Tissues, and Organ Systems

Name: ________________ Date Assigned: _________________

Due Date: _____________________

Outcomes Addressed

4.2.2 - Relate the needs and functions of various cells and organs to the needs and functions of the human organism as a whole.

4.3.1 - Describe the basic factors that affect the functions and efficiency of the human respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory, and nervous systems.

4.3.3 - Describe examples of the interdependence of various systems of the human body.

4.2.3 - Explain structural and functional relationships between and among cells, tissues, organs, and systems in the human body.

You will enter a draw to obtain two different Body Systems to research. Once you have the systems and you have chosen your partner (optional), you will decide whether you wish to write and illustrate a children’s book/comic or write and produce a movie using

“Pinnacle” or Movie Maker (knowledge of making a movie is required as there are no tutorials provided).

You will present your final product to the class. Time: 10 minutes.

If you wish to present your body systems in another format you must put your proposal in writing to Ms. Amero.

Goals of Project:

Describe the function of your two systems

Clearly explain the relationship/interdependence of your two body systems (aka how do they work together and rely on each other to function)

 Explain how the needs and functions of cells and organs relate to the needs and function of the human organism as a whole

Describe the relationship between cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the human body (for your two body systems only).

*Note: if you decide to work with a partner, total expectations remain the same for each individual person.

You will need to keep all information for this project in a duo tang or portfolio that you will submit with your final product. Organize your portfolio in the order listed below.

In it you will have: your assignment sheet, student work logs, brainstorm/graphic organizer, research sheets in order for your bibliography (10 in total for each person), story board, and Record Sheets from all presentations.

Steps to Accomplish the Project Description

1.

Brainstorm Take the two topics you got from your lottery and think about all related topics or words. Narrow down your topic to what question or aspect you want to focus on. You may use a graphic organizer.

2.

Research Record information on Research sheet/ Key

Words Recording Sheet with webpage or book information. You may be researching knowledge about how a body system works or how two body systems are connected, etc. (see your goals above)

3.

Story Boards

4.

First Draft of Script

5.

Bibliography

Presentation of Book or

Movie

8.

Use the Story Board Sheets to help you decide what text you need to write, or clip art you need to find, or what music you need, or what video or digital footage you need to acquire.

This is all the complete Story Boards and

Research and Daft and Brainstorm information . You are ready to film or produce a copy of your book or movie.

Gathering all of your research notes into one place and putting all your sources into alphabetical order

– your portfolio.

Edit the original. Present your book or movie to

Ms. Amero.

We will present to our class. Presentations are to be 10-15 minutes long. You will present your movie/book/comic to the class and answer questions.

You will record information on all systems from the presentations so you have information on all of the body systems and how they are connected.
