Geography 200 – World Regional Geography
Course Description: World Regional Geography is the synthesis of our physical and human
world. Our world is broken down into specific regions that unify peoples by economics,
languages, belief- systems, physical and environmental challenges. The lines that demark
these regions are becoming more blurred – the world and our differences are becoming less.
With this globalization, cultures and traditions are being challenged and as a result conflict
arises. This course will discuss some of the regions across the globe and the challenges each
face in their human and physical makeup.
Course Text: The text “World Regional Geography”, 10th or 11th edition is required for this
course. You will need the text in order to complete assignments, readings, and quizzes.
The chapters you will be required to read are as follows:
Geog & Development in an Era of Globalization - Pages 1-71
Central Asia & Afghanistan – Pages 307-331
The Middle East & North Africa – Pages 333-399
Africa, South of the Sahara – Pages 401-465
South Asia – Pages 467-503
East Asia – Pages 505-559
Southeast Asia – Pages 561-587
Computer Requirements: A reliable computer, or access to one, is a must to complete this
course! If your computer is posing problems for you this is not an excuse for being unable to
meet deadlines. If you are in need of a computer you may use the computers on the WNC
campuses located in Carson City, Fallon, and Douglas County. You may also access
computers in a public library.
The Course: Geography 200 World Regional Geography is broken into 8 modules. You
must complete each module in sequential order; each module will have different
requirements with a total of 100 points per module. Each module will have a posted
beginning and end date – the end date will not be extended!
Due Dates: It is very important that you keep up; due dates will not be extended. On the
next page you will find a list of requirements for each module with their due date. For the
multiple choice or fill-in-the-blank quizzes, the correct answers will be revealed the day after
the quiz is due. Therefore, an extension past the due date is not possible since the answers
to the quiz will be revealed.
Extra Credit: The course is essentially an open-note course since the quizzes are not
proctored. Therefore, I do not provide extra credit opportunities. If you stay on top of
each module you should have little problem completing the modules on time.

Office Hours: I will be online Monday-Friday throughout the day. Do keep in mind that
Fridays I may be hit or miss; Fridays are usually meeting days for faculty. I will do my best
to respond if you do have questions on Fridays, but I cannot guarantee it. I am not available
on weekends or holidays. If you do email me on those days, I may not respond until
Monday.
Final Word: Online classes require discipline on your part. If you are a huge procrastinator,
online classes may not be for you. You need to establish a schedule, and stick to it. If you
don’t, it will become very difficult for you to complete the class.
