Thesis on the importance of faecal colonisation with uropathogenic E.coli for the development of acute pyelonephritis in infants.

PhD at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden

Continued research work in different fields.

Major research interests: a. Virulence factors in E.coli b. Nosocomial spread of infections and virulent bacteria c. Factors of importance for the development of antimicrobial resistance. d. Invasive infections (septicemia and meningitis) with Gram-negative bacteria and Group B Streptococci in neonates and infants. e. Typing methods of bacteria. f. Inflammatory responses in acute pyelonephritis in children and in experimental pyelonephritis. g. Inflammation in the development bronchopulmonary dysplasia.

1989 "Docent" (assistant professor) at the Karolinska Institute.

The research is mostly done in collaboration with colleagues at the National

Bacteriological Laboratory and the Bacteriological Laboratory at the

Karolinska Hospital.

Reference list includes some 150 papers of which more than 130 can be regarded as original papers.

Dr Stephen Marks presented his MD thesis in lupus nephritis in children. I was Dr Marks’ tutor.
