APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES
FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2015/2016
Applications are invited into the Postgraduate Diploma in Law
(PGDL and SPGDL), Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE),
Master of Laws (LL.M), Master of Business Administration (MBA),
Master of Arts in Linguistics (MALI), Master of Education in
Curriculum and Instruction (MECI), Master of Educational Planning
and Administration (MEPA) and Doctor of Philosophy in Law (Ph.D)
programmes
1.
THE PGDL PROGRAMME
(a) The Postgraduate Diploma in Law involves one academic year
of study followed by examinations.
(b) The Programme is offered in two categories, namely:
(i) The Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) for holders of the LL.B.
degree and
(ii) The Specialized Postgraduate Diploma in law (SPGDL) for
holders of degrees other than the Bachelor of laws (LL.B). The
Specialized Postgraduate Diploma in Law is designed to provide
specialized training in specific fields of law to holders of degrees
other than LL.B. The objective is to enhance the candidate’s
competence by inculcating specialized legal knowledge to the
candidate.
(c) The Diploma shall be on a pass or fail basis.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
(a)To be considered for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in
Law (PGDL), a candidate must be a holder of the LL.B. Degree of
Ruaha University College or from a recognized University or has
satisfied the requirements of the award of such a degree with a GPA
of at least 2.0.
(b) To be considered for admission to the Specialized
Postgraduate Diploma in Law (SPGDL), a candidate must be a
holder of a First Degree of Ruaha University College or from a
recognized University or has satisfied the requirements for the
award of the Degree with a GPA of at least 2.0.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A. General Requirements
(i)
Holders of the degree of Bachelor of Laws (LL.B).
(ii) A GPA of at least 3.5 and above.
B.
(i)
The Work Experience Consideration
Holders of Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B) with a GPA between
2.7 and 3.4.
(ii) Work experience or field attachment in any field of law for at
least two (2) years.
(iii) Additional consideration will be given to candidates who have
done further training, research or writing on an area of law.
AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
Apart from core courses, candidates will pursue the LL.M degree in
any of the following five areas of specialisation:
1. LL.M in Human Rights Law
2. LL.M in Trade and Finance Law
3. LL.M in Finance and Banking Law
4. THE MBA PROGRAMME
The duration of the MBA programme is 18 months. The programme
is designed in such a way that students are obliged to take two
semesters of instruction and the third semester is dedicated to a
research project.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
(a) This is a one academic year programme (12 months).
(b) The course is organised in three parts:
(i) Continuous assessment, comprising of course work and end of
the course examination.
(ii) Teaching Practice and
(iii) Research Project.
This is a multidisciplinary professional programme. It will however,
admit candidates based on the following criteria:
a) The candidate must meet the common regulations for admission
into the Masters’ Degrees offered by RUCU.
b) Holders of at least first or an upper second degree or equivalent
in non-classified degrees with a GPA of between 3.5 and 5.0.
c) Holders of lower second class or pass degree with a GPA of 2.7
and 3.4 with a minimum of two and three years of work experience
respectively.
d) Holders of postgraduate diploma in business studies or related
fields.
e) Applicants with professional qualifications such as (CPA, ACCA,
and CSP) plus a year or more of work experience, provided they
completed form Six that led to the successfull study of CPA, ACCA
and CSP respectively.

AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)**
The applicant must be a holder of Bachelor’s Degree in any
specialization from Ruaha University College (RUCO) – now Ruaha
Catholic University (RUCU) or any other University recognized by
TCU with a minimum of GPA of 2.0 and above.
The programme caters for both applicants oriented in Arts or
Science subjects.
Applicants to have graduated from Universities outside Tanzania
will be considered on their own merit.

THE LL.M PROGRAMME
The LL.M programme is an intensive programme designed to last
one year (12 months), consisting of coursework followed by
research leading to a dissertation.
The MBA degree programme equips students with skills, techniques
and an understanding of the administration of public and private
enterprises and offers specialisation in two areas:
1. MBA in Finance and Accounting.
2. MBA in Human Resource Management.

MASTER OF EDUCATION IN CURRICULUM
AND INSTRUCTION (MECI) PROGRAMME
This programme is designed to meet the candidate’s personal and
professional goals and to provide them with additional skills to
enhance the teaching and learning process in their own classroom.
The programme does not only study common issues and theories
but the application of theories to the curriculum planning,
organization and evaluation used in the teacher’s own classroom
according to the needs and time.
MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
A candidate should have a first degree in Education.
A candidate must have at least a Bachelor’s degree in any other
discipline with postgraduate diploma in education, or its equivalent
from a recognized institution of higher learning.
Categories:(i) A GPA of 3.0 of undergraduate study for applicants who are
fresh from University.
(ii) A GPA of 2.7 of undergraduate study plus a working experience
of not less than two years in the teaching carrier after the award of a
1st degree and/or any other professional qualification from
recognized Institution.
PROGRAMME DURATION
The students are expected to complete the programme in 18
months.

(b) A holder of a Master of Laws degree of any other recognized
University.

Master of Educational Management and Administration (MEPA)
aims to train and develop high quality educational managers and
administrators that are critically needed to strengthen the ability if
the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, Regional/Local
Authorities and schools to provide the highest quality of education

7.
MASTER OF ARTS-LINGUISTICS
This programme aims to give students a through grounding in
modern theoretical linguistics and linguistic description. It also
aims to enable students reach in at least one area a level of
theoretical sophistication that enables him or her to study the
current linguistic situations, and in many cases to keep abreast of
the latest in the subject and to contribute to its advancement.
MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
(i) A Candidate should have a first degree in Linguistics. A GPA of
3.0 and above of undergraduate study for applicants who are fresh
from University.
(ii) A GPA of 2.7 of undergraduate study plus a working experience
of not less than two years in the teaching carrier and/or any other
professional qualification from recognized Institution.
8. THE Ph.D IN LAW PROGRAMME
PhD students benefit from the supervision of internationally
renowned experts, secondary supervisors, classes in legal theory
and research and presentation skills, seminars and library facilities.
The duration of the study period, including the three months of
research proposal processing, is three years for full-time and five
years for part-time candidates.
