TSL at MRC The North Argyll aggregates and ready-mix concrete depot of TSL Contractors Limited has been located at The Marine Resource Centre for over a year now, and the relationship remains a happy one, with good communications and positive attitudes between the two companies. TSL has made steady progress in building up a customer base, and aims to provide a prompt and capable service to customers large and small in the North Argyll and Lochaber areas. The deport at MRC also supplies TSLs own construction division, based in Argyll Street in Oban, which during its first year in mainland operations has undertaken varied contracts and sub-contracts. TSL recognises the huge contributions which fish farming makes to the economy of the area, particularly in the remoter parts, and is glad to be in a position now to serve the industry on the mainland as effectively as it has done in Mull for many year. Whether it is the supply of road marking materials and mooring blocks, or construction of concrete slipways and site buildings, TSL is in a position to quote competitively and carry out the work efficiently. Although the business produces 6 million tonnes of granite aggregates annually and ships products to distant markets, it also relies on serving the local market. In the Oban and North Lorn area this is done through TSL Contractors Limited who operate an aggregate depot at MRC and distribute Glensanda aggregates and ready mixed concrete. According to Kurt Larson, Foster Yeoman Ltd Direct, “We have had a strong relationship with MRC and they are good neighbours to us. We wish them the best of success and continued growth with us in the area.” www.foster-yeoman.co.uk International Speciality Products Tangles from the Western Isles have been and continue to be an important source of activity for the Barcaldine site. Said Richard Searle, Manager of International Seaweed Resources for ISP at Girvan. “There is an unbroken association between the Barcladine site and seaweed form the Western Isles. This will continue this winter and hopefully for many years to come”. In 1996 the ownership of the Barcaldine site was transferred from Kelco (now ISP) to The Marine Resource Centre, but the delivery, storage and milling of tangles has continued under a contract between ISP and The Marine Resource Centre. Said Richard Searle “people who supplied tangles to ISP last winter are invited to do so again and people in the Western Isles who might be interested in collecting this winter are invited to get in touch”. Milled tangles are sent from Barcaldine to ISPs alginate factory at Girvan in Ayrshire. Seaweed supplied via MRC at Barcaldine, is used in the production of many of ISPs food grade alginates, but also in the production of alginates for a wide range other industries worldwide. http://www.ispcorp.com/products/alginates/products/ref.html Foster Yeoman Foster Yeoman Limited owns and operates the Glensanda Quarry on Morvern.
