SUNYCUAD Annual Educational Conference

The State University of New York Council for University Advancement (SUNYCUAD)
invites you to join us for our annual educational conference on June 8-10, 2011, in
beautiful Saratoga Springs, New York. This year’s conference will feature five
nationally recognized experts as speakers and core faculty, as well as a session with
SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher.
SUNYCUAD is a professional development and networking organization affiliated with
the State University of New York and includes more than 900 professionals who work in
development, public relations, alumni relations, publications, government relations,
marketing, and web communications.
This call for proposals is your opportunity to propose conference sessions that are
consistent with the themes outlined below by the conference program planning team. The
team will be planning the entire curriculum for the conference.
We are seeking two distinct programming options:

75-minute break-out sessions (generally a presentation followed by a dialogue
session)
and/or
 20-minute roundtable sessions (generally a more tactical hands-on discussion or
a moderated roundtable on a targeted topic)
Case studies and interdisciplinary sessions are strongly encouraged, as are sessions
that cover strategy or tactics.
Deadline for Submissions: January 14, 2011
Guidelines for Submission:
Although we are interested in viewing any proposals linked to the core mission of
SUNYCUAD, the conference program planning team has identified major programming
themes for the 2011 conference. They are as follows:
Programming Themes:
 Leadership and change management / Prioritizing and goal-setting in a fast-paced
workplace
 Using emerging technology effectively and efficiently
 Reaching out to a new generation of philanthropists



Telling the SUNY Story—why storytelling matters
Social networking and digital strategy
Selling yourself and your team to internal clients
Examples of Topics:
 Creative Ways to Engage Young Alumni
 Breaking Down Silos: Can Development and Alumni Offices Work Together?
 Practical Advice for Effective Team-Building
 Selling the College/University Brand to Your Colleagues and Campus (Internal
marketing)
 Mobile Technology and its Impact on Reaching Prospective Students
 Facebook, YouTube, Twitter: What’s Next in Social Media?
 Benchmarking metrics
 Opportunities to engage your alumni association in increasing alumni
participation in the annual fund
 Boards (Orientation, Nominating Process, and anything and everything pertaining
to their relevance)
 Continuing education/life-long learning programs for alumni
 Communicating the success/impact of alumni relations to the University
community (partnering with campus departments on alumni relations)
 Alumni Magazines – Making them relevant in today’s 2.0 world
 Building a Lifelong Relationship -- developing and implementing a long-term
plan to keep alumni involved for life
 How an institution can have a cohesive/holistic digital strategy
 Living the brand across the campus
 Effective development strategies and tactics for community colleges
 How branding supports development
 How to determine return on investment in development, marketing, public
relations, and social media
 Delivering on the “Power of SUNY” message
Submission Procedures:

Selection Procedure:
The SUNYCUAD conference programming team will meet to select the best proposals
for the conference program. You will be notified in early February if your proposal has
been accepted. If your proposal is not accepted, you also will be notified as soon as
possible.
Important Notes:




75-minute break-out session presenters will be given a complimentary
conference registration and one night of accommodations, if applicable.
The program planning team asks that presenters make some electronic form of
their presentations available for posting on the SUNYCUAD web site after the
conference.
Technical details were still under negotiation with the conference site at the time
this RFP was prepared. Exact technical details will be provided at a later date.
However, because of potential limitations due to conference budgets or
conference-site resources, if your presentation hinges on the use of specialized
equipment, please make that clear in your conference proposal.
If you plan to distribute handouts during your session, please bring approximately
60 copies.
