Peter and Teresa Dessel Schissel Family
Peter Schissel Jr. came to America in 1844 with his parents Peter Sr. and Maria Neift
Schissel. They settled in St. Mary, Pennsylvania. In 1856, Peter Jr. came to
Winneshieck County, Iowa to a farm near Festina, Iowa. In 1875, he moved to a farm
near Ossian, Iowa where he lived until his death.
Peter Schissel Jr. was born Jan. 6, 1837 at Bavaria Regensburg Germany. He was
married to Theresa Dessel Jun 1st, 1870 in Festina, Iowa. She was born February 2, 1849
in Eppe, Waldech Germany. Peter's parents were both born in Bavaria, Germany. Peter
and Theresa were very well thought of in their community. Peter and Theresa were
Catholic and made their living farming. It was said that if anyone came to their house,
they could not leave until Theresa served them lunch. Peter died May 3, 1912 in Ossian,
Iowa. His death was attributed to old age. After his death, Theresa bought a home in
Ossian, Iowa and lived there until her death July 27, 1919.
Her death was attributed to heart failure brought on by influenza. They are both buried in
St. Francis de Sales Cemetery in Ossian, Iowa.
Theresa's parents were Heinrich Wilhelm Dessel and Marie Anna Figge Dessel. Theresa
came to America in 1869. Theresa's parents were born in Eppe, Waldech Germany.

Witt June 20 1884. Henry died June 24, 1924 in Ida Grove, Iowa. Otillie died June 19,
1917. They are both buried in Ida Grove, Iowa.

3. Pauline Dessel married a Mr. Siepman.
4. Ms. ? Dessel married Charles Meyer.

A. Joseph A. Schissel was born on October 26, 1872 in Ossian, Iowa. He married
Christina Duclos October 14, 1902 in St. Kilian, Minnesota. Christina was born
October 15, 1883 in Festina, Iowa. Christina's parents were Anton and Barbara
Rosenbaum Duclos. In 1891, Joseph moved from Ossian, Iowa to St. Cloud,
Minnesota. He later worked at times with his brothers as a carpenter in The Iona
Lake, Wilmont, Lismore and Adrian Minnesota areas. The last seven years of his
life he spent the summers at the Bud Holtey Farm. He died March 7, 1953 at the
home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Al Lausted. Christine died
September 11, 1923. They are both buried in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Caroline passed away November 11, 2002.
Caroline's parents are Joseph and Blanche Jablanski Baranowski. LeRoy
was 7 years old when his mother died and he went to live with his sister
Irene until he was married. LeRoy was in the Navy and served in the
Pacific Theatre. LeRoy worked as a shipping clerk and Caroline was in
Market Research. They are Catholic and now live in an apartment.
i. Dr. David Neal Schissel was born March 17, 1957 in South
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. David graduated from Madison State in
Wisconsin. He lives in Corning, New York and is in Chemistry
Research. He was married in 2002.

h. Richard Adam Schissel was born August 29, 1920 in St. Cloud,
Minnesota. He married Leatrice Joy Davis June 10, 1944 in Escanaba,
Michigan. Leatrice was born May 16, 1923 in Escanaba, Michigan. At
the age of 5, Richard went to live with his sister Irene because his mother
had died. Richard graduated from South Milwaukee Heights in 1938. He
went to work at Bacyrus Erie and stayed for 43 years and 3 months. He
retired in 1983. He built large machines for stripping coal mines. Richard
was in the Coast Guard from 1942 to 1945. He and Leatrice have a 50 ft
trailer up north that they enjoy during the summer months. They now live
in an apartment in Cudahy, Wisconsin.

Sandy Lou Schissel was born July 1, 1945 in Escanaba,
Michigan. Sandy has been a nurse for 38 years at St. Luke's
Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1997, Sandy was selected
as nurse of the year at both hospitals.

Kennabeck. Frank was a farmer all his life. He lived in Winneshieck County
except from 1906 to 1919 when he farmed near Iona Lake, Minnesota. He died in

brothers. He drew up the plans to build the houses. He also did finishing work
like carving designs in the pillars separating the rooms. They built many homes
in Lismore, Adrian and Wilmont areas reaching the jobs by horse and buggy in
the early years. When he lived in Wilmont, he walked to many of his jobs. He
loved to argue politics. Barbara was a homemaker. William died November 22,
1944 in Worthington, Minnesota. He was buried in Lismore. Barbara died June
28, 1975 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was buried in Lismore, Minnesota Catholic
Cemetery. Barbara's parents were Anton and Barbara Rosenbaum Duclos.

Stella Schissel was born May 15, 1907 in Lismore, Minnesota. She
married Lawrence Gaudette November 27, 1929 in Lismore, Minnesota.
Lawrence was born March 2, 1909. Lawrence was a gas truck driver. He
loved to go hunting. Stella was a homemaker. She lost one of her arms in
an accident. She somehow got her arm caught in a mangle while ironing
clothes at the Deaf School in Fairbault, Minnesota. She still kept an
immaculate house, made wonderful meals, did canning and baking. She
always had coffee made and kept warm in a vacuum battle so when
friends stopped by, they could have lunch. She had an artificial arm but
did not always wear it at home because it bothered her. Stella died June
17, 1996 in a hospital in Maplewood, Minnesota. She was buried June 21,
1996 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Lawrence died July 10, 1993 in
White Bear Lake, Minnesota. They were both buried from St. Patrick's
Catholic Church.
b. Anton Leo Schissel was born May 21, 1908 in Lismore, Minnesota. He
was baptized May 24, 1908 in St. Anthony's Church in Lismore,
Minnesota. His sponsors were Anton Duclos and Theresa Schissel. Leo
was single and did odd jobs in Lismore. Leo died from a brain concussion
that resulted from a fall. He was Catholic. Leo loved children. Leo died
February 16, 1958 in Lismore and was buried February 19, 1958 in St.
Anthony's Cemetery in Lismore, Minnesota.
c. Viola Julia Schissel was born June 14, 1909 in Lismore, Minnesota. She
married Harold Gerber in St. Paul, Minnesota. Harold was born April 6,
1911. Viola Died May 29, 1984 in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is buried in
Elmhurst Cemetery. Harold died April 12, 1990 in St. Paul. He is buried
in Elmhurst Cemetery. Viola worked for Brown and Bigelow. Harold
worked for Darling Trucking.

they operated a restaurant in a building that was moved to Lismore from
St. Kilian, Minnesota. In 1941 they moved to Worthington where Nick
worked on the draft board during WWII. After the war, he worked in the
office for Swanson Company, which later became Campbell Soup
Company. In 1956, he moved to St. Paul and worked in the State Office
Highway Department. Florence loved to play bingo and poker. While she
was at a bingo game, she had a light heart attack. While she was in the
hospital, her blood began to clot. She had surgery to remove a large blood
clot but her blood continued to clot. She died April 13, 1957 at the
Worthington Hospital. She is buried in the Worthington Cemetery. While

his dad and also with Fred Jensen. He also worked on farms as a hired
man. He was in World War II. While overseas, one of his jobs was to
canvas the fields after the fighting to pick up remains of bodies and
articles of identification. After marriage, he and Marie bought the
restaurant known as Billy's Cafe. It was the same one that Nick and
Florence operated years earlier. They ran it from January 1, 1951 to
October of 1962. Then he and Marie worked for Campbell Soup
Company in Worthington. Marie also made all the wedding dresses for
the brides, attendants and the smaller children for her family. Billy died
June 6, 1976 in Adrian, Minnesota from cancer. He is buried in St.
Anthony's Cemetery in Lismore, Minnesota. After retirement, Marie
moved to the twin cities and now lives in a senior complex in Albertville,
Minnesota.
i. LaVonne Carol Fehring Schissel was born August 30, 1942 in
Luverne, Minnesota. She married Dale Broberg on November 28,
1964 in Lismore, Minnesota. He was born February 1, 1939 in

iii. Marvin George Fehring Schissel was born May 11, 1945 in
Worthington, Minnesota. He is a twin. He married Janice Fritz
Ackland October 13, 1979 in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Marvin
was in the Navy on the USS Forestal in Vietnam when planes
exploded and bombs blew out the side of the ship where his
quarters were. He was in the fire department so he had to help put
out the fire and help take out the sailors who were killed. All his
belongings were lost. He spent the last months of his tenure in the
Navy in Iceland. He played basketball on a team and won many
trophies. He also coached a team of Icelander natives. They were
so grateful they made a fur rug in the shape of Iceland and many
people signed their names on the back of it. After the service he
went to work for Cinch in Minneapolis. He transferred with the
company to Vineta, Oklahoma. He works as a Product Process
Manager. In 2002, he was transferred to a new plant in Reynosa,
Mexico for a year. He has been with Cinch for 33 years. They
live in Grove, Oklahoma but for a year they will live in Texas,
close to the border of Mexico.

Henry Schissel. She was ill when she arrived and died November 27, 1961 in
Adrian, Minnesota. She was buried December 1, 1961 in Ossian, Iowa.
H. Henry P. Schissel was born March 12, 1885 in Ossian, Iowa. Henry was single.
Henry was a carpenter. He tended bar at the Lismore Liquor Store. He roomed at
Mr. and Mrs. Ray McCann's. Henry had some farmland he rented out. He
purchased Nora and George Henning's house when they moved to California.
When Henry's sister Marie died, she willed him her furniture. His house was next
to Billy and Marie Schissel's house. He had his meals with them. Henry was
very good to their children. Annette kept Henry very busy. He always took her
uptown to get treats that she would share with the other children. Henry had a
very bad case of eczema. He suffered terribly from itching. He died May 7, 1966
in Adrian and is buried in Ossian, Iowa.
I. Marie Rachel Schissel was born April 28, 1887 in Ossian, Iowa. She married
Matt Offerman February 12, 1924 in Ossian, Iowa. Matt was born October 13,
1876 in Fairbault, Minnesota. Matt had a shoe store in Fairbault, Minnesota.
Matt became ill and was in the hospital from Thanksgiving until he died
December 27, 1937 in Fairbault. Marie died February 19, 1954 in Fairbault.
They are both buried in Fairbault, Minnesota.
