Aug 2008 – present
Director of the Sea School www.bluepeteraustralia.com established to
maintain the experiential educators traditions described by Kurt Hahn.
Jan 2005 – present
Training Officer for the Outlook (Department of Justice and Attorney
General). Developed, delivered and assessed the Certificate III, IV
and Diploma courses in Outdoor Recreation. Adventure Intervention
Officer conducting adventure therapy programs with complex needs
client groups, specialised in expedition style youth justice and family
programs. Acted as Manager, Team Leader and RTO training coordinator during this time.
Jan 2004 – Jan 2005 Personal Development teacher for Moreton Institute of TAFE.
Conducted leadership development for staff, and training in
Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation and Horticulture courses
for students with complex needs.
May 2000 – present Ships’ Captain - conducted numerous Duke of Edinburgh Award
expeditions, family sailing adventures and solo passages between
Cooktown and Lord Howe Island on various ocean going catamarans
and monohulls.
Mar 2002 – May 2003 Outdoor Education teacher and Duke of Edinburgh Award
Coordinator at Yeppoon State High School. Initiated significant extracurricular adventure programs for learning support students.
Mar 2000 – Mar 2002 Training Officer and Sailing Master with the Outlook (Department of
Families). Provision of training, resources and support for adventure
based learning programs such as canoeing and sailing camps for
high needs young people. Trained teachers and other
youth/community workers to Certificate IV level in facilitation and
technical skills.
Oct 1997 - Sept 1998 Inaugural Head teacher of the Toogoolawa School at Ormeau, an
independent school for students who been excluded from mainstream
schools due to their complex needs. The holistic curriculum we
developed was focused on building engagement, literacy and
numeracy skills, self-esteem and effective communication.
May 1996 – present Contract teaching positions at various schools and school camps in
QLD, NSW, VIC, N.T. and W.A. Main teaching areas of junior and
multi-strand science, biology, health and physical education, outdoor
education, maths and earth science.
Jan 1993 - Dec 1996 Senior Instructor with Outward Bound Australia. This involved a wide
range of outdoor education programs for school groups, young and
older adults, and people with disabilities. The programs ran for nine to
twenty six days, and involved many adventure activities such as
caving, rock climbing, abseiling, orienteering, rafting and canoeing.
The intensive nature of these courses promotes the development of
personal qualities such as self-reliance, awareness, confidence and
motivation, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a team or in a
difficult group situation. Benchmark psychological assessment and
other evaluation tools were developed by Outward Bound during this
time.

Specialisations in offshore sailing instruction and bushwalking
instruction in unmodified landscapes. Completed RPL in 2008.

upgraded in 2014 with Online Courses Australia with electives in
online facilitation.
Graduate Diploma of Environmental Education at Canberra
University. Graduated in 1996.

Personal Interests:
I lead a busy family life with my partner Yonna, and our daughters Eva and Francesca.
 I am committed to community service through the Queensland Ambulance
Service First Responders, and local Rural Fire Brigade.
 I am passionate about youth development expeditions, particularly through
the use of sailing - and volunteer with South Passage, Windeward Bound
and Blue Peter.
 I enjoy motorcycle touring, sailing, horse riding and paragliding because they
provide metaphors and other lessons for life.
I enjoy working with people with people of all ages and backgrounds, to establish
rapport, collaborate and promote positive working relationships for a common cause.
 I maintain and grow my technical and administration skills.
 As a mentor, I am willing to listen, reflect and share freely from my own
experiences and positive outlook.
 As a teacher, my presentation, training and coaching skills are well
developed and I enjoy working with learners.
