DILUTE COLOUR
Casper is a Cremello horse. This means he has two copies of the Cream gene on a
chestnut base coat. He also carries plenty of Bling (flashy white markings or sabino).
This is shown as:Chestnut + Cream + Cream (always has blue eyes).
This means Casper will throw one copy of Cream to every foal he sires. The shade of
the resulting foal is dependant on the base coat colour of the mare and the interaction
between that base coat colour and Cream.

Chestnut horses can confuse people as they can produce a bay foal to a black sire. The
reason for this is that they can carry Agouti like a bay horse. Because Agouti only
dilutes a black base coat and has no affect on red, often the owner does not know until
a bay foal is born to a black sire that this is the case or unless they have their mare
colour tested. Genes are always paired. For a horse to be chestnut it must always be
"ee".
Bay = AAEE (Homozygous for Agouti and Extension. This genetic makeup will only
throw bay foals 100% of the time).
= AaEe (This genetic makeup can produce Bay, Black or Chestnut)
= AAEe (This genetic makeup will only produce Bay or Chestnut)
= AaEE (This genetic makeup will only produce Bay or Black)
All bay horses are black-based with Agouti diluting black to brown over the body of
the horse missing lower legs, mane and tail. Genetically a bay horse has to have at
least one copy of Agouti (A) and one copy of Extension (E).
For simplicity a Bay horse is Black + Agouti or Black + Agouti + Agouti
Black = aaEe (This genetic makeup will produce Black and chestnut)
= aaEE (This genetic makeup will produce Black 100% of the time)
Genetically a Black horse must always be "aa" (no agouti) and Ee or EE.
